I have just re-read the article and I don't think that it means that Mzungu is not likely to get an early debut.

While Anthony, Griffin, Faulks and Mzungu are likely to offer an injection of new blood early in the piece, first-round debuts are unlikely for the trio of young Victorians taken by the Dockers in the national draft.

Read it as 2 sentences and it makes more sense to me.
