Cameron Ling

2010 Stats
Games: 18
Total Score: 1385
Average Score: 76.9
High: 118
Low: 24
Centuries: 4 out of 18

Summary
The red head from Geelong had a great year Footy wise, shutting down some of the best players in the league, although not having the greatest of years SC wise. Cameron showed some promise, scoring 2 tons in his first 4 games. However, Ling had a knack to score under 70, scoring below 70, 8 times in 18 games. (that's about 44% of the time  :-\ ).

The Crystal Ball

Based on last year's magic number
$408,415

Based on m0nty's Fanplanner
$389,800

Position: MID

Decision
No. His body is very old and tight, and is getting slower by the minute, plus he's a tagger, which means he plays a defensive role. Wouldn't even think about choosing Ling in 2011.

Indeed Q. Not sure if Ling will last the season

nas

Not for me as his tagging roles as stated does lower his scores

Boomz

Wouldn't ever pick him & I think he'll be gone by the halfway mark...

Ling cooks hamstring
from alf.com.au website - dated 30 Jan 2011

GEELONG has confirmed reports that skipper Cameron Ling is battling a hamstring injury and will be ruled out of the NAB Cup.

Geelong's general manager of football Neil Balme told the club's website on Sunday: "It's just a hamstring injury - nothing major but at the same time he will be sidelined for a couple of weeks before he can start running again.

"But over the long term we don't think it's a major issue. Injuries are part of the game and sometimes a player can just push a bit too hard and that's what seems to have happened to Lingy."

Normal recovery for a hamstring injury is three to four weeks, putting him in doubt for the opening of the NAB Cup.

Balme said: "He's had a great pre-season and really trained well. It's obviously a setback but it shouldn't affect him too much going forward."

Ling's hamstring concerns came to light on Saturday when he injured it during a light training session at Skilled Stadium.

Saturday's light training session followed a session on Friday and a difficult session on Thursday.

The outlook is brighter for teammate Travis Varcoe who is training strongly and on track for round one.

It is believed Varcoe, who suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery during Australia's International Rules tour of Ireland, has signed a new long-term contract with the Cats.

Varcoe, who was selected with pick 15 in the 2005 national draft, has kicked 82 goals in 76 games in the navy and white hoops. He was a member of the Cats 2009 premiership team and took giant strides in 2010.

Once a fringe player, Varcoe's position in the team is now critical as he is one of the younger Geelong on-ballers who will be expected to fill the huge void in the midfield created by Gary Ablett's absence.

Apart from Varcoe and Ling, the Cats are said to be in good shape and many of their older players have shed weight.
