Marcus Drum

Summary:

Broken Nose. Detached Retina. Irregular Heartbeat. Achilles problems. Ankle problems. Hamstring Problems.

No wonder Geelong recruit Marcus Drum could get on the field last year. The Cats still expect value from this running defender, and are hoping for a full preseason from the ex-Docker. Drum played 22 matches for the Dockers from 2006-2009, at the poor average of 63.68. Drum has shown limited potential, but you would think the Cats wouldn't have selected him without a plan in mind. You get the sense there is a changing of the guard at Geelong, and Drum could be part of the new line-up.

The Crystal Ball:

Based on m0nty's fanplanner

Price: $215,400

Position: DEF

If he has a good preseason, I think the Cats will try and get a few games into him. Scott may have a different philosophy than Thompson, but there is no point in having a 24 year old playing in the VFL without testing him out.

I think he will be a fringe player at first, and may work his way into the best 22 later in the year.

Decision:

Unlikely. The death of the Cats has been greatly exaggerated, and they are still a very strong team. I don't think Drum will get a decent match and although his price is good for his potential output, I wouldn't think so. Will watch in preseason.

I agree with your decision Ossie, although i did have him shortlisted last season along side Hunt. Pre-season is the key ;)

hes just not a good player, as such he wont be able to crack into the cattery.

unlikely, but will watch at that price.

Barlow 21

Will watch at that price but very unlikely.

Pre season is the key, because of his lack of durbaility both at Freo and now with us.

If his body looks like holding together I am considering taking the punt...Scott will definitely have to make personnel changes at the back, and we have sweet bugger all depth in tallish defenders, so he's definitely going to get a lot of games if fit, and will score well in a Milburn type role.

Scarlett and Milburn are likely to get injured at some stage given their age, and one of Lonergan or JHunt (possibly both) will be pushed aside.  That said, Drum's still a risk, and Taylor Hunt's a better option if we're talking young Geelong defenders.
