As I said hawk, Friday and Saturday night will remain as is. What I'm saying is Foxtell could get MORE than their fare share of "blockbuster" games.
Every channel now has the capacity to televise EVERY game if they wanted to. Why can't they have the same system as the radio coverage and let the channels cover any game they want, not exclusively, and let the better coverage win the ratings.

I haven't heard Saturday night. In the interview I saw, Demetriou only mentioned Friday night, which makes sense as it is the only time when there is a single game on; two games are played on Saturday night.

I don't think there is such a thing as a fair amount of games for any station as they are all ultimately privately owned businesses, what is important is that fans aren't disadvantaged and this distributes teams more evenly across free-to-air. The idea of predicting the "blockbuster" is rubbish anyway. The games they are after are the higher rated games which means currently the teams with higher numbers of supported get the priority to be on free-to-air. It isn't about "better" games.

As for using the radio system I can think of a number of reasons why that wouldn't work but the main one is MONEY. If they can all do it then where does the AFL get its money?

I don't know Hawk, I'm just thinking out loud. Whenever things like this are negotiated, the grass roots supporter always seems to get the short end of the stick.

Ultimately it will be St Kilda's, Dogs', Roos', Cats' and the interstate team's supporters who will be advantaged. When this deal goes through, there will be 5 games a week on free-to-air vs 4 games on Foxtel so the difference will be minimal.

Also the AFL will most likely stipulate that the games have to be shown live as they have seen that showing games lives doesn't affect attendances so this will actually be a positive step for footy fans.

True, I hope your right. It would be good to get live games on Friday and Saturday nights.
