I am looking through our draw for 2011 and despite what everyone said last year it was actually a challenging draw. With the exception of Sydney we played all of the remaining top 8 twice, that speaks volumes I think despite the whole MCG debate.

So looking for positives in 2011 they are tough to find.

We play the three worst teams once being Gold Coast, Brisbane and West Coast & only one home game in the first 5 rounds.  What do others think? Just means back to back will be all the more enjoyable.

The only two positives I see is that we Carlton twice (8 points locked) and we get the bye in round 13.

you dont travel away from melbourne until round 14 and have 4 away fixtures in the last 10 rounds with only 5 away matches all season....

Everyone keeps saying that we played all-but Sydney twice! I don't kow where that came from! Didn't play Freo twice either.

As for the draw? I know you have a bit of tongue-in-cheek going on, but it is actually quite good. The last 7 rounds will be challenging though, travel 3 times and play Geelong and St. Kilda.

But for the first time in a while, we don't have to play the premiers at all!

bunyip

You have 14 home games and Geelong has 7. Don't try to tell me what a tough draw you have cruisy. I wonder if anyone plays at the MCG more than you guys.

Fletch74

Only travel 4 times interstate when there are now 7 sides outside of Victoria. Easy draw IMO. Most other Victorian sides travel 5 times.

Bunyip, don;t give me the old Shell Stadium angle. We'd happily play you down there but you trade all your big games to the MCG to cash in. You have as many home games as everyone else.

The other angle is that Collingwood have no home games because we don't play at Vic Park.!  ;)

Agreed Ossie, it is nice to avoid the Premiers though, they are a good team.

bunyip

Cruis.....you don't play at Vic Park any more. We play any games that are likely to draw a big crowd in Melbourne. 7 games at Kardinia Park is a rip off in anyones language. Not to worry though, we will prevail.

TAB Sportsbet's Gary Davies said the Pies were the only side anyone wanted.

"At the moment we have got nearly $18,000 invested on Collingwood and the next most money is $4 on Adelaide," he said.

Fletch74

Well with the draw, that money will increase...

bunyip

I think Collingwood will get the second year blues and miss the finals next season.

Best $4 I ever spent, I had it left over from a ten dollar note when I bought a pint of pale ale  ;)

Every team puts in a request to play Collingwood at home during the upcoming season because of the money they generate.
That leaves them to play 16 away games (at the requested minimum) throughout the season.
There are 9 teams to play in Victoria so therefore thay can only at a max play 7 out of Melbourne.
Because of scheduling, 5 day breaks etc., and the fact that alot of GC and Brisbane games will be at night because of heat there just isn't enough weeks in the season for Collingwood to play more games out of Melbourne than they do. It just doesn't fit....to the Pies advantage unfortunately.

Should have used the rest or begged n borrowed to top up a butcher of pale ale then. lol

Cruiseon

Rooster, you've summed it up well. doging about the Pies does nor get to the cause which is everyone else wanting to cash in on playing the Pies.

Well maybe not technically but we are talking about the playing side not the money side so seeing as their home ground is the MCG, I would think they would play the same there whether it was classified as a home game or not.
