There's life in Cricket - but not as we know it....

John Harnden CEO of cricket Australia is in the infancy of premature talks with Indian billionaires to bring cricket as we know it here under the banner, control and playing structured system that exists in India.

20/20 will take control as we adopt and adapt to the new way in cricket. When questioned about where matches will be played in Australia should this go ahead in 2012 in response to the lack of 'iconic' grounds available, it was said that one Indian billionaire had asked "how much would it take to BUY the MCG ?"  :o :o

81 out of 100 dollars in the cricket world is generated and controlled in India, they have all the power and are looking to gain greater control.  >:(

Memberships, voting and rights to members have not been thrashed through but it has been said it will NOT be a 'rebel' competition and voting for the changes will have to be "one in - all in"

No need to go anywhere, they're coming here !

Alex7089

WTH?
Does he really think he will be able to BUY the MCG?
It would take more than a billion to get the AFL to budge :P
With a billion dollars why not build a new ground ::)

I saw this on the fox sports site.

McRooster

I was listening to radio on way home from work to the interview with John Harnden and he seemed very open about it.

One thing I will say Alex is that I'm sure the billionaire in question has plenty more than 'one' billion and if they want to do it, they'll do it because of their passion and their ridiculous upper echelon wealth.

EVERYTHING has a price, even the MCG unfortunately  >:(

Master Q

This new generation is bugging me. I hate T20s. There not Cricket, if you really love cricket, you'd love Test and One Dayers the most. All players of the game admit it, and they all say that playing for the Test Side is the biggest achievement possible.

I don't want to see T20 take over. I don't want India to take over.

Alex7089

If he buys the MCG everyone will get really pissed at India :P
Then all the countries will come together to form the ultimate cricket team and take down India >:(
The 'G is ours, don't buy it. It is like buying Lords. (Although Lords is much better IMHO)
You can't do it, it is the spirit of Australian sporting.

Agreed Q T20 is shower. Well, like the IPL and stuff is OK but international stuff is BAD. It is making the game about money and the aim is to hit a six instead of stay in and make 100+ -_-

Exactly, you summed up what I wanted to say.

Master Q

If people really like T20s, move to America, they have plenty of baseball games there.

Sure, the G' has a price, but they will never ever buy it, they'd have to get past Cricket Australia, the AFL, FFA (Soccer) and Australia as a whole.

It's entertaining no doubt, but not for the true cricket fans like you said. I loved watching One Dayers. Been to a few tests when the last day was free :P.

Alex7089

I am pretty sure there would be a petition and 20 million people would sign it if they attempted to buy the 'G.
Without it Australian sport would no doubt collapse, well not collapse but attendances would be DOWNNNNNNNN

McRooster

Attendances are an irrelevant factor in these money hungry tyrannical enthusiasts pursuits.

Look at the IPL attendances in Sth Africa - poor. We all still watched plus the TENS of MILLIONS that watched back in India. In addition to the exciting cricket we watched the advertising as well. Research shows that we take more note of advertising when we have heightened senses arising from interest in the draw card program or the passionate blood boiling emotion of sport.
It is about advertising, it is about sales, it is not about crowds.
Those same billionaire types who paid to have the Commonwealth Games in India for the same selfish reasons also didn't care about attendances, (how bad were they  :P) they cared much more about the rupee?

There were so many reasons safety wise and so many reasons peolpe wise for the Games not to have ever gone ahead there, but it didn't ever matter for BILLIONS of reasons.

Maybe as FTP managers we should all move to India, LOTS of sponsorship $ there it seems  :P

+1 I`m not a fan of Twenty/20 myself. I prefer the longer format for watching and playing. [playing a game on a turf wicket is so good when your 14 ;D]
