Hey everyone!

In the coming weeks, I am going to be pulling all stops on my statistical analysis of every AFL player for SuperCoach 2011. I'll be looking at the best and worst standard deviations, their efficiency rates, the breakdown of scoring for each players etc.

Its a mammoth task, but seeing as the start of the season is months away, I figure I have the time...

My question to you though is, does anyone have any requests for any statistic analysis they would like done?

Feel free to let me know through this thread or just message me.

PS. Yes, I will make the finished spreadsheet available to all FanFooty users...

Great idea, would be wonderful to have everything at hand.

The only request I would have, if possible, some correlation stats re when a player plays against the top clubs as opposed to the bottom clubs.

Depending on the draw, if you get a draw like Essendon had this year, and say for instance Ryder only plays well against the bottom clubs, I would not go for him, and vice versa.

Great idea though. This will go well with the Player Profiles that have been started by Ossie, which can at least give more of an analytical approach re the players.

Always a fan of spreadsheets like that :)

This maybe a bit more difficult, but I've also been looking at correlation stats for specific statistcs. I.e. Barry Hall has a 0.91 correlation between goals scored and supercoach scores (interpret as Hall needs to score goals to score high), where as Dane Swan doesn't have any particular high correlation between any specific stat and his supercoach score (interpret as a good all-round player).

So yeah :)

I would be interested in the correlation between players scores on the same team.

Would be 2 different stats...

First a bounded look from a particular player, i.e. every time player a scores above their average does this correlate with another player scoring above their average. (This would be worth looking at a few times, first with players playing above their average, then 10% above their average, then 20% etc)

The other stat would be unbounded so what is the raw correlation between particular players scores.

Good idea!

Looking at the SC scoring structure could give you some ideas like efficiency, kick-to-handball ratio, ineffective disposals and clangers...

Time-on-ground could also be useful

All the best with this

Well after 2 days, I'm half-way through one player.  :-\

Sourcing the raw data I need is proving difficult, I am eagerly waiting a reply from Champion Data about some data...but I'm not holding my breath.

I do have previous issues of the AFL Prospectuses and FF, which are a great start, but providing such a detailed and accurate analysis for all players may be out of my reach already.

But I wont give up just yet, I'm sure that there will be some helpful statistics that come out of this anyway....

For example, Luke Hodge will score over 125 in SC once every 4 games on average. Also, the preliminary reports on his scoring breakdown shows that he scores more than a third of his points through effective kicks.

I will bring you more updates as they come.

Happy Supercoaching everyone!

Thanks, it's definitely going to be a hard slog, but I'm looking forward to the end result. Once I can get some templates going, it's going to speed up the process.

Sounds Good. What Stats are you wanting to supply, also, do you think it would be possible if you could split the spreadsheet, maybe by teams or something, because I can imagine it being huge, don't want to burn my downloads  :-\

Master Q  ;D

Sounds like very hard work!! Especially if you want to do ALL the players :-\.

Also, Interesting Stat on Hodge ;). Still won't be in my team next season :P.
