A breeding ground for future AFL talent and also where present talent sits awaiting their call-up.

In here we can post about those fringe players, out of formers and the next BIG thing that play in the SANFL.

Any news relating to SANFL does essentially have a roll on effect to the AFL.

It's the second best comp in Australia !!  ;D

"The North Adelaide Football Club is delighted to advise that Josh Francou has been appointed to the role of Senior Coach.

A decorated SANFL and AFL player, Josh now has the opportunity to fulfil his coaching ambition at our Club and to implement those measures which are so essential to on field success.

The journey began in the early 1980’s whilst attending the footy at Prospect with father Maurice and watching the likes of Mick Redden, the Jarmans, Peter Bennett and others in what was a successful era for the Club. Being a keen Rooster fan was inevitable given his father and two uncles, Ken and Gary, all played for the Club in the late 1960’s and 1970’s.

Josh’s playing career needs no explanation to Rooster fans but includes an SANFL Magarey Medal, AFL Brownlow Medal 2nd and 3rd finishes and an enviable AFL career with the Power â€" all after debuting with North in 1993. That said, the progression to coaching is one of choice, and Josh has made that choice to take up the challenge at his Club â€" the Roosters."

This pleases me no end. Will shoot straight from the hip and bring that hard edged desire that has lacked in a squad that with all its talent should've deliverd more.

Watch for Matty Wright and James Craig forward development and other roosters as they begin to have an inside at what it takes to play at the top level.

The thoughts of yourself being a North Supporter / Player re Port Adelaide Magpies current plight?

Any other comments is also appreciated.

Hey roost have you heard any news about Jonathan Giles?
I read a while back that Neil Craig said he might be interested in drafting him in as another ruckmen, but then he got Jacobs. I think he won best and fairest at his club this year, which is great work for a ruckmen. Do you know if any other clubs are interested in picking him up?

If this goes ahead it will make your boys all the more stronger after having struggled locally for the last few years....

19th October.
At this morning’s meeting, the SA Football Commission viewed a detailed presentation relating to the One PAFC proposal, which was prepared by the Port Adelaide Football Club and Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club in conjunction with the SANFL.

The Commission will now take time to consider the proposal, with a decision likely to be made in coming weeks.

The decision will be made jointly by the Commission and the SANFL League Directors.

Should the proposal receive endorsement, both the Commission and League Directors would need to use their separate powers to allow an amalgamation to go ahead.

1. The Commission controls the AFL licence. It would need to make relevant changes to Port Adelaide Football Club’s sub-licence agreement for the One PAFC proposal to progress.
2. The League Directors hold the power to make alterations to the SANFL Constitution. Changes to the Constitution would need to be made for the One PAFC proposal to progress.

This would not be done without the Commission’s approval to alter the AFL sub-licence.

The Commission will not be making further comment on the detail of the proposal until the League Directors have an opportunity to view the presentation next week.

It will pave the way for Port to begin the inroads into what the Victorian teams have had all along, a RESERVES side. Crows then will  have to follow suit and the slow decimation of SANFL will begin.

I'm happy enough for Port to merge as a unit considering the Magpies financial plight but it cannot be allowed for them to field a reserve team otherwise the SANFL will competitvely die.

Demetriou wants this to happen and has been in Adelaide on many occasions to make sure the prssure of the move to Adelaide oval is strong enough to make the SANFL wilt. He is a prickly pear  >:(

Giles didn't get enough opportunity at Centrals whilst Griffen was in and out of the side but his move to Sturt has as you rightly said resulted in a B&F , capping off a terrific first season with the Double Blues (polling 196 votes in the League â€" PT Morton Medal)
The man stands out and is a genuine talent but tires easily. Craigy is keen on him but Schwerdty has said 'he needs a decent pre season to build his tank and frame'.
Jacobs may have leapfrogged him and Craig from Nth Adelaide.
My source at the  Double Blues is unsure of other interest, will get back to me.

THE nine SANFL clubs have voted unanimously to unite the Port Adelaide Power and Port Adelaide Magpies Football Clubs.
SANFL executive commissioner Leigh Whicker made the announcement last night at AAMI Stadium following a meeting of league directors.

The final hurdle for the administrative merger - dubbed the One Port Adelaide proposal - to go ahead will be a vote of Magpies members at Alberton Oval tonight.

Reserve side as at this time is not mentioned. I (sorry Roost) do hope that it does as brings the list together in a team instead of being with North central etc etc or the main point if a player ready to come back and say does play for north and they have a bye due to 9 teams has to wait an extra week on the sidelies. I know that they can get an clearance to play for another club and a lot do but when they do it is 9 out of 10 playing for their reserve side.

Just my thoughts tho

amazing how one year changes everything. one year ago it was unanimously voted against with slightly different conditions.

15 Dec 2010
2010 SANFL MINI DRAFT RESULTS
Seven players were eligible for the 2010 SANFL Mini Draft.

The results are:

South Adelaide - Cameron O'Shea (Eastern Rangers, Port Adelaide)

Port Adelaide Magpies - Ben Jacobs (Sandringham, Port Adelaide)

North Adelaide - Aaron Young (East Fremantle, Port Adelaide)

West Adelaide - Ben Newton (South Fremantle, Port Adelaide)

Sturt - Richard Tambling (Richmond, Adelaide)

Glenelg - Jarryd Lyons (Sandringham, Adelaide)

Eagles - Jarrad Irons (Perth, Port Adelaide - rookie)

The Mini Draft selection order is from ninth-placed club to 2010 premier (South Adelaide, Port Adelaide Magpies, North Adelaide, West Adelaide, Sturt, Glenelg, Eagles, Norwood, Central District).

When looking at possible fantasy selections from this base (ie from which parental SANFL Club base ) the most success seems to come from Eagles, Glenelg and Port or translated Irons, Lyons and Jacobs.
Of these three, Irons is the only rookie (Power) but probably has the most historical chance of a call up. Lyons (CRows) and Jacobs (power) are senior listed.
Tambling won't play many games at Sturt providing his op allows him a full pre season and should allow entry into into the main playing gruop at the Crows.

Wes Mantooth

i don't think irons will get a game this year. i can see him playing with eagles all year.
