High Price: $526,200 (round 8 )
Lowest Price: $413,300 (round 12)

Summary:

Gia’s always been a worth favourite of mine, but my patience is starting to wear thin with him. He is a very hot and cold player, with streaks of form frustrating fantasy coaches, but then he can be your saviour too.

Last season, Gia started off poorly averaging 75 in the first 4 rounds, then 136 in the next 3, then 62.75 for the next 4, then 98 for the remaining 11 games, including 7 centuries. Yo-yo material!

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number
Price: $493,000

Based on m0nty's fanplanner
Price: $469,400

Position: FWD

Can win you games, but then lose you them too. Good chance of being captain next year for the Bulldogs.

Decision:

It will be interesting to see how Gia goes if he takes on the Captaincy role, whether that will make him more consistent, or will it drop his scores with the extra responsibility.

I’m going to put Gia on the 50/50 list for the moment, he has hurt me too much in the past, and sometimes it’s hard to forgive, but I will look at him in the pre-season.

Will you gamble with Gia next year?

Agree with every point Fletch.

I think the Dogs will struggle next year and be inconsistent, I'll expect Gia to be the same. So, I'll go 50-50 also

DazBurg

unlikely from me i've never picked Gia before and don't see me starting
now

Justin Bieber

Didn't get him this year and doubt it next year. Too inconsistent for my liking :(. Is a little cheapish but there are quite a few forwards who could probably score the same but are priced alot lower.

Samm79

nice read again Fletch.

Gia is definately an upgrade target for mine.

Just a quick thought on inconsistent players. Sometimes I think we remember clearly when an inconsistent player loses us a round and focus on the loss quite heavily. We hate them, detest them, write bad things about them on ff. Where I don't think we give them credit is when they potentially win us a round. We may remember them when they score 150 on a Sunday to give us a narrow victory but won't give them much credit when on a Saturday afternoon they did the same.

I think this can distort the reality of the situation a little. When judging a players quality it is the average rather than the SD that has 99% of the appeal for me. I also tend to find inconsistent players give me a bigger buzz as you just don't know what you're going to get!

Where the SD comes into it is when I am looking to select my starting team. Consistent players with low SD's will not dip in value the same as their inconsistent peers.

For this reason I will try and select consistent players as keepers in the starting team and look to upgrade to high averaging inconsistent ones when they string a couple of stinkers together.

Well put Samm. Couldn't agree more.

BoredSaint

burnt me last year in so many games before i finally traded him out.. so unlikely for me

If Gia is Captain, the man the rest of the club look up to week in, week out for leadership, the man the young kids look up to and think I need to work my arse off to be anywhere near as good as him.......... then I think the Bulldogs are in quite some trouble.

Maca24

agrred cruise. the man isnt a role model IMO.
and a no from me in fantasy to. maybe an upgrade target

Alex7089

Maybe, but I doubt it. Took the risk with a new captain in Watson last season and it worked very well.
Inconsistent though which is a huge put off for me.

CrowsFan

Never been a big fan of Gia. Could be cos of his inconsistency or it could be because I don't like the doggies. Anyway it's a no from me

Cruiseon

Funny you mention that CrowsFan as Gia almost fits the Crows mould perfectly.

Good running player, a bit soft, goes missing when it counts........ he'd fit right in.

Apologies, can't help myself. At least you didn't bite too hard at the bait.
