From all the Where will (Team X) finish in 2011? polls posted in the various team boards comes some very interesting results.

So far 226 votes have been polled in the various team boards on this topic.

Only 6 teams have a chance to be premier - St. Kilda (3 votes), Nth Melb (3), Collingwood (2), Gold Coast (2), Essendon (1) and West Coast (1).
Verdict - Only Collingwood and St. Kilda can be considered.

Only 6 teams have NO chance of the wooden spoon - Essendon, Melbourne, Nth Melb, Richmond, St. Kilda and Sydney.
Verdict - Only St. Kilda and Sydney have NO chance.

Only 6 people think Brisbane will win the wooden spoon.
Verdict - Agreed, this was the highest number of votes given for the wooden spooner.

Top four - St. Kilda (11), Collingwood (8), Geelong (7), Fremantle (5),  Hawthorn (5), Western Bulldogs (2), Carlton (1), Melbourne (1), Sydney (1)
Verdict - St. Kilda, Collingwood, Geelong, based on votes and Fremantle over Hawks based on last year form.

Gold Coast (12), Port Adelaide (12) and West Coast (11) were the three clear favourites to finish in the bottom nine.
Verdict - The ladder may look a little like this......based on votes  and preferences (the preferences being that the higher placing will be awarded to the team with more positional votes):P

1.   St. Kilda
2.   Collingwood
3.   Geelong
4.   Fremantle
5.   Hawthorn
6.   Carlton
7.   Adelaide
8.   Western Bulldogs
9.   Sydney
10. Nth. Melb
11. Melbourne
12. Gold Coast
13. Port Adelaide
14. Essendon
15. Richmond
16. West Coast
17. Brisbane

cruiseon fletch and ossie are all kidding themselves.

carlton 12th? i realise you may hate the team, but luigi clearly said dont be biased or prejudiced in any way.

Just how do you think carlton will finish 4 spots BELOW next year?

Carlton has only a couple points of failure. You rely on a few to carry to many. One or two injuries and you will plummet down the ladder.

Personally don't see them making finals. Just don't see much scope for improvement with the current list.

Junktimer

yeah and hawthorn's depth showed during the elimination final.

I agree. Our top 10 players are probably collectively the best top 10 of any club however a number of them aren't consistent enough and out next 8 or so have become very complacent since 2008. The last 4 are just story after story of first round picks with so much potential just not getting there.

The difference is out best players can play better where as Carlton's best seem to be playing at capacity. Hence the scope for improvement existing with the Hawks list where as Carlton is lacking.

1   St Kilda

Hawk summed it up JT, what would happen if Judd went down? Carlton is a team full of a few stars, not a star team. Too much reliance on too little!!

Not being biased, I've had Carlton in my top 4 a few times in the last couple of years. And they've failed me miserably (in a really good way lol).

Carlton's second half of 2010 was poor. They do not have a solid defensive or offensive unit. The other current 7 top 8 teams I think are better than Carlton. Melbourne, Richmond, North Melbourne are improving. And all three have better all-round teams.

ossie i will bet ANYTHING that richmond will not finish above carlton next year. i mean come on, do you really think that will happen? one of the most ridiculous calls ive seen.

if carlton move in anyway next year, it will be up.

Why though? What has changed? Beyond simple fan bias I can't see a basis for that statement.

Richmond's youngsters are far superior to Carlton's.

I'll take that bet :) You give me 50% of all income earnt from now on, your first born, your soul and all derivatives thereof if Richmond finish above Carlton, and I'll give you 5 cents if Carlton finish above Richmond.

.... You did say anything :)

Oh, and....

The Last 11 Rounds of the season saw....

Collingwood win 9.5 matches
Geelong win 8 matches
Sydney win 8 matches
Bulldogs win 8 matches
Hawthorn win 7.5 matches
St. Kilda win 7.5 matches
Adelaide win 6 matches
North Melbourne win 6 matches
Fremantle win 5 matches
Port Adelaide win 5 matches
Richmond win 5 matches
Melbourne win 4.5 matches
Carlton win 4 matches
Brisbane win 2 matches
Essendon win 2 matches
West Coast win 1 match

So Carlton came 13th in the last half of 2010 - ahead of only bottom 4 sides Brisbane, Essendon and West Coast - and BEHIND the club that you say can't finish above you.

.... Yeah. Ridiculous prediction :)

you seem to be forgetting the first half of the season ossie, howd richmond go then?

i will take that bet, and though i will only win 5 cents, you will suffer the humiliation of ever thinking richmond could finish higher than us.

Richmond does not have the makings of a future powerhouse, they have a few good midfielders and that is it. literally it.

In answer to hawk as well, the reason that we will finish higher than what we did last year boils down to a few key reasons.

- Development of Lachie Henderson, as well as Chris Yarran and Jeff Garlett, I think Eddie has run his course, and has been serviceable, though he may improve once the team/forward line improves.  The addition of Luke Mitchell will help.

- Backline additions in Watson and McCarthy, even if these players don't have the immediate impact they hope for, they allow players such as Bryce Gibbs to move back into the midfield and become more damaging.  Nicholas Duigan is underhyped, but the mature recruit could well have a Michael Barlow-like impact next year, probably to a lesser extent.

- Midfield will only get better.  Murphy and Gibbs are still young and learning, and are both very good players in their own right, but they will only improve.  Kade Simpson's run off the wing, along with Scotland's run in the middle is always damaging.  Hopefully Brock McLean can avoid injury next year and be the hard body to protect Judd and others.  Kane Lucas will improve next year barring his troublesome hamstring.

We have Richmond covered on all lines, as shown by us finishing 7th, and them finishing 15th.  Is it a coincidence that we always flog them by 15 goals whenever we play them?

So there's a bunch of reasons, pick your favourite.
