petrie was ap remium ruck, im not sure with goldstein taking the second ruck position this year he might average only in the 70s, i think he is worth it in the forward line and it would be 4 times you have to rely on the bench assuming they both dont have a bye the same round. As a ranking player that is enough for me. Also it helps if any goes down with injuries or resting. If freo get a top 4 position this year they might need to rest sandilands and having petrie in the forward line could be very useful.

Im also a bit woried for all of gellong list, ablett out hurts them and they arent getting any younger. I would much rather have someone like montagna in my mids opposed to chappy

I think Goldstein/HMAC will be fighting over 1 position this year.  That's why I think Petrie will be a forward and pinch hit in the ruck as North have a very small forward line.  This 3 interchange rule (TERRIBLE RULE) I think will kill 2 rucks in the 1 team.

Relying on crap players for 4 times a year means you have to take their bad scores for 12 games a year.  Not worth it IMO (even for rankings)

Chappy is in the mids for his MPP.  I think you saw it this year that Chappy and GAJ swapped roles.  Chappy spent more time in the middle and GAJ spent more time forward.  I think they were working out who was gonna replace GAJ in the mids (I think they secretly knew GAJ was gonna leave).

Holz

what do you mean take thier bad score for 12 times

Holz

i personally believe that petire will turn into a permanent forward with HMAC the main ruck and Godlstein another forward, who occasionally rucks. If not that Goldstein will get droped ( i really dont see this happening though). However there is no way Hmac will not be the key ruck, im very  biased but i rate him in the top 3 rucks in the comp

Petrie will slot back into Hale's old role (I know Hale lost it at seasons end but still) as the target down forward and then he will pinch hit in the ruck aswell
recon he will play more of a CHF role tho, swapping with Lachie Hansen

16 rounds minus 4 times you have to use them as cover
=
12 rounds where you have to carry them.

ohh ok , i only care about national ranking so the 12 means.  I dont think its really do you want petrie, vezpremi and chapman ( plus a bit of cash) or  petrie, ryder and pav

Petrie, Vezpremi & Chappy
vs
Petrie, Ryder & Pav

Chappy outscores Pav
Ryder outscores Vezpremi (but I think Vez will score more this year being at the Dogs)
Petrie = Petrie :)

Holz

i personally believe chappy = pav, ryder easily outscores vez

Chappy 21 games

Total Points
2388

Average
113.7

Pav 21 Games

Total Points
1925

Average
91.6

That doesnt equal the same in my books - 22 points a game less.

Hard to judge between Ryder and Vez as Ryder averaged 85 and Vez only played 1 game for 71 points.  I think Vez will play a role this year and average 70 - 80 points.  At $182k that is good value.

Holz

thats this year, i believe pav and chappy will average about the same next year.

At least we can agree to disagree on this one :)  Enjoyed the discussion though.

Alphaman

with ablett gone chappy will push up forward more and kelly will get more midfield time, and mackay will come will kellys spot. all will score well.
As for petrie he is a risk, messing around with your rucks could cost you 35-50 points each roundn if u have a 2nd ruck so id just stick with 2  premium rucks from the start, petrie is better forward cos if something goes wrong you have cover on the pine

valkorum

Kelly was already pushing up in to the midfield last year.  I think Chappy will spend at least the same amount of time in the midfield as he did this year and he averaged 113 this year.  Petrie was averaging mid 80's when he wasnt injured which is the same as a second prem ruck.  Save the money and spend it elsewhere.

browny_wce

pav shud not be compared to chappy!
if chapman had been in this form 5 years ago and was at any other team then geelong (distracting with players like GAJ, bartel, selwood, corey, etc.)
chapman would be top 3 in the best players in the AFL
pavlich is good, but thats only coz he has played at freo he entire career where he has been the best player in a one man team
Pav should go back to CHF and stay there, keep him out of the midfield and he will score well plus kick bags of goals week in week out
