Will Sando hang around?

Scott has done amazing things with Freo's midfield last year and now has landed a plum job. Took many by surprise - perhaps Hinkley pulled out after being offered more coin to stay north  ;)

Actually, Scotty was our defensive coach.

A good choice. I agree with you cruiz, it showed a bit of profesionalism and, dare I say guts, to appoint Scotty when they knew Sando may reconsider his position at the club if he didn't get it.
Ironically, our current assistant coaches include Blake Caracella and Nigell Lappin, both of whom he's played with.
Everyone will now be waiting to see what he does with the list. One or two players might get their marching orders.

Which is why I thought it was weird they were offering Milburn and Wojo contracts without a coach

bunyip

I think you will find that no contracted players will be sacked, but some players whose contract comes up for renewal next season might not be invited back.
List management is a complex thing. Milburn and Wojo would be required players.
The Geelong management would not let any players go without consulting the coach, that would be stupid. And before you say it, Djerkurra and Laidler had decided that they wanted to leave.

Mmmmm bunyip, not surely I fully buy into that.

Are you trying to tell me, a new coach, from another club/culture couldn't try and convince a young basically untried player who wanted to leave that he had an important future at the club??

bunyip

No, what I'm saying is that 2 players who had been at the club for 3 or 4 seasons and only had a handful of games to show for it had asked the club to trade them if the opportunity arose. The guys we had at trade week were more than capable of handling that, and Scotty would be more than happy with 2 first round draft picks.
Scotty has already stated that he is going to try and give our younger players more game time. How he is going to do it, I don't know. But that statement alone would be a worry to some of our under performing (yes, we do have a couple) players.
The thing is cruis, this is really exciting stuff. No-one really knows what Scotty will do. He has said he sees no reason why our current list can't win another premiership, so he's meeting the challenge full on. All power to him.

Sorry val, I am ill-informed. I was of the undertaking he was your defensive coach in 2009 and had graduated to mid-field in 2010, woops :P

BTW who is the mid-field coach at freo then?

Neil Balme on radio tonight said "Sando and Hinckleys understanding of game plan and culture at Geelong made it very hard to say 'no' to them when considering the club still wants to tract in that direction."
He did add that he would be pissed if Bomber did turn up at Essendon as full time coach but in any other role he wished him all the best as he has brought the Geelong club many successes in the last 11 years, adding that it was very brave of him to stand up and announce he was done.

Great decision .. brave decision .. and we all know fortune favours the brave

Scott's a hard nut who'll make hard decisions .. and it's all music to my ears when he says ..

"In my view there is a lot of talent that hasn't had the opportunity at senior level that we will see come through. There is no doubt young players thrive on opportunity."

Great call Cats !!

Apparently he won them over in the interview, and listening to him speak I can understand why.

Did you see Sanderson's face when they were doing the press conference?? :(:( I'll be surprised if he stays.

bunyip

Agree Fletch. Sando will move on now I think. He'll be a handy pick up for someone. He clearly feels ready to coach senior footy.

Sando should be snapped up pretty fast me thinks & maybe if the power can forgive for when he left,  he would be good there

The Magpies appreciate your talent Sando, come our way :)

Todd Curley and Barry Mitchell both look after the midfield.
