It's basically official, Max Rooke is retiring after receiving word from the doctors he will not recover from a chronic knee problem that has plagued his career.

His hardness & leadership will be missed, especially in finals.

Geelong would have beaten St.Kilda in round 1 of the finals if a fully fit Rooke had been playing.

It is all unravelling a bit down there, for better or worse 2011 may define the next few years.

I think the biggest thing that the loss of Rooke will bring will be his hardness and leadership for sure.

Despite playing only the 1 game at senior level this season, the leadership he brings to the defense would have been extremely helpful to the younger guys. It's definately a big loss.

Will be missed sorely by the AFL community. Added toughness and some heart into the game.

Sad to see a player forced out due to injury.
