So the deal didn't get done, despite us offering pick 37 and another (can't remember what).

Apparently his contract ends next year. Does he have the ability to quit and enter the pre-season draft or is he stuck at the Dogs until next year? My understanding of the rules is that he must stay at the Dogs or not play AFL next year however I have been hearing otherwise.

Yeah, he's a dog next year now, no choice. Unless his contract has a get out claus (which it isn't likely to).

GWS could swoop him up next year

Boomz

True ossie they could...

hawk_88

could they potentially take him with the intention of trading him to the Hawks, like they did with their pre-listed players?

Pre-listed players are different than uncontracted players. Pre-listed players are more for mature aged recruits from the WAFL, VFL, SANFL, etc.

They can pick him up as uncontracted but doubt they would trade him if they do ;).

Thought the Hawks could of had him but not good enough picks I guess ???. Dogs picked up some fast guys who can easily play the same position but guess they wanted more ;). Hope the Hawks are happy getting Hale ahead of Hill :P.

I understand the difference between pre-listed and uncontracted. I was curious if they could act as a medium between the Hawks and the Dogs using the uncontracted method of acquiring players.

If there was no one at the Dogs that GWS wanted, presumably, if the rules allow, GWS could sign him (obviously he has to be willing) with the intention of trading him to Hawthorn. GWS gets something out of it as they weren't going to take anyone from the Dogs and Hawks would get Hill below market price.

Just a hypothetical. Imagine the uproar from the Dogs if this happened. Would be interesting to see if the AFL has considered this when penning the rules for the GWS and GC.

I am assuming it isn't possible unless no one thought of it because then you could have had the Suns doing the same thing for players like Tarrant. Interesting if it is possible.

That sounds interesting hawk. They could find another loop hole to benefit them.

The Tarrant trade could of gone alot smoother if this happened :P.

valkorum

Tarrant would have gone a lot smoother if he wanted to go to another club other than the pies.  I am sure the Hawks would have given us the pick they used to get Hale or at least a couple of players

hawk_88

Not that much. Not for a 30 year old. Ladson and a 3rd round or something similar.

Maybe next season :P.

We'll trade him to Hawthorn at the end of 2012. Might cost you a bit though as hopefully he's a Premiership player by then.  ;)
