Summary:

Very dashy player who, despite missing 6 of the first 10 matches, really stood up as a running defender last year. He averaged over 100 for the first time since 2005, and at 28 and with a load of retirements, is now one of the Crows most senior players. I feel that it was no coincidence that Adelaide's form in the second half of the year coincided with Johncock returning.

Johncock has the capacity to score large centuries. 6 of his 7 centuries this year were 127 or more. Though this does imply inconsistency, and a large standard deviation of 35.98 confirms that.

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number
Price: $538,200

Based on m0nty's fanplanner
Price: $512,400

Position: DEF (small chance of MID/DEF)

* Note, have now included prices from m0nty's fan planner. I'm not sure where his number came from but I don't doubt his wisdom! The problem with using m0nty's number is you can't compare players prices in 2010 with 2011 as the scale has changed. So both are included.

I actually think Johncock is value for money at that price. I think he has taken his game to the next level, and should score valuable centuries. One of my questions is about his durability, having only played a full season once in the last 6 years.

Decision:

Upgrade target. I don't always go with the theory that you should always choose consistent players (if a player averages 100 for the year he averages 100!), but for the inconsistent players, it is best to wait until they have a bad game, and jump on him later. Johncock fits that bill for me.

100% agree. I did not realise his average was that high, but he is very inconsistent. A definite upgrade target. He's never been on my radar, but after seeing that average he will be.

yeah, more likely an upgrade depending on how the crows go

I was keeping an eye on him this year. I was very surpised at some of the games he played :o.

He's a touch and go to start the season. More likely will upgrade due to his inconsistency.

TOM15

had a great season last year, plays the rebounding half back, plenty of the ball there :)
