Sam Mitchell announced that Hodge is now the captain of the Hawthorn Football Club at the Peter Crimmins Medal!!!

I don't think Sammy did a thing wrong. We are blessed with two great leaders though.

My Dad told me he was chatting the David Parkin earlier in the year and he said that Sammy wanted to give it away. He said he found himself following Hodge and felt that it just made sense.

personally i thought hodge acted as captain this yr

That is a hard thing to say from outside the club in my opinion. Hodge is definitely a lead by example captain but there is a lot more to the role than that these days.

Yep certainly the best man for the job he is an awesome leader :)

i was just sayin from a fans view that he looked more of a leader than sammy

I get that (and I think both are fantastic leaders so I think this is win win) but my point was that what fans perceive and want aren't necessarily the best choice. My understanding is that this wasn't a decision made to appease the fans anyway so I am not at all concerned but you look at Voss, Hird and Buckley. All three were signed based on past playing ability and more importantly based on the desires of fans. None had coaching experience when they were given contracts to be senior coach. It may work out but it is madness. It is a massive risk that could adversely affect their clubs for 5-10 years.

Hodge will be a great captain in my view.

I just thought Mitchell was also a great captain, never had a problem with him.
