Grand Final Replays are here to stay and extra time is going to apply to the following Grand Final that was drawn.
I think doing extra time in the following week is a bit of a cop out, if ur doing extra time do it on the day.

Boomz

I want them to keep the replay but if theres another draw there should be another replay.... seriously its only gonna happen once in 100 years that theres 2 draws...

McRooster

With all the money involved and the income generated for the AFL on the day of all days, the GF - I can't see them changing current rules  >:(
They should IMO play extra time on the day and give closure to the season there and then.
They may say 'tradition' but really they are thinking 'ca-ching!'

RiOtChEsS

yeah i agree with ya Mc its all about the benjamins, also agree Boomz if u want to do the replay lets keep doin them until we get a winner the GF that never ends :o i just think their sitting on the fence  :-\

I am in all honesty for the replay. Not sure I like the extra time for the second replay, but it is most likely a necessity. I'm pretty sure the MCG isn't available after next week.

I don't like extra time for any footy match. I understand that it is necessary for finals as there is a schedule that has to be followed, but there isn't for the GF. The players at the end of that match were physically and probably mentally spent. Another 10 minutes of footy would be terrible, risk injuries and amplify the impact of earlier injuries. It doesn't do the game justice.

yep im for the replay aswell. I feel for the players though as they were absolutely exhausted physically and mentally. but as a fan its great. history in the making and an extra week of footy!  :D

I'm for the replays, but 1 is enough though. Yes, it takes its toll on the players, but that's our game. That's what makes it unique, and special. It wouldn't be the best game in the world if we were to change it.

Did we all like the huge advantage set at Wimbledon this year? The US Open tennis is decided by a tie break... That advantage set at Wimbledon made history because it was memorable.... What about the 18 hole playoff's at the US Open golf? All this adds to their events, makes them what they are today.

The players have to realise that it's not all about them, they're earning the $$$ because of the people who watch it... Yes, the AFL GF is now a "Big Event", different to 77' and 48', but we have to maintain some tradition that's made the game into this "Big Event"

this is very well said fleth and i agree completely

see i'm torn between the two in a way if they play extra time it see's fair beause it beomes a game of who is fitter
but in saying that
it is tradition and it does add to the drama especially in the last couple of minutes because if u knew there was extra time it wouldn't be as bad teams could just play for the extra time so the had a couple of minutes to regroup...and for the fans every time the ball went forward knowing there's extra time wouldn't be as thrilling like yesterday with a minute left and the saints scrambled it forward everyone was hanging on every second
don't get me wrong it would still be thrilling but just takes a slight edge off of it

Maca24

who do u think will win the replay and will it be a blowout?

Justin Bieber

I reckon Saints could have the replay. Collingwood have almost half their squad who haven't played in a GF before and haven't been in that much of a physical environment. It'll be tough on the young blokes to play the same quality as they did 1 week later with all the bruises.

I like the replay. Agree with the points made earlier. We don't get a draw often and it keeps adding to the build. It is great for the fans but the players do suffer a bit playing in the stress of the GF twice.

I want replays as they don't often happen. Might be the only one in my lifetime. Voted for extra time though by accident :-[.

DazBurg

i'm sticking with the saints to win by 5
lenny to double up with BOG
and Schneider  to kick winning goal

Boomz

Saints by about 20... Did you see how the pies were after the game? looked emotionally & physically  drained... Saints did too but they are a lot better at handling themselves, so I think they will be better prepared.

I really hope McEvoy comes in for Gardiner he deserves to be there... Not saying Gardiner doesn't but if he's not fit it makes sense.

Keep it as it is, it hasn't happened enough to warrant a rule change

Does that matter? I agree with you that it should change, but does the frequency of it matter? Surely what is important is the fairness in deciding the best team of the year.

For me, if the system is fair (which I think it is) it wouldn't matter if it happened every year, it should stay the same.

If it isn't fair, it doesn't matter to me if it happens once in 1000 years, it should change.
