Summary:

I was tired of every year ignoring Brent Harvey, and every year him slapping me in the face. This year I thought "No, I don't care how old he is, I'm selecting him". His MPP status would be gold, I told myself.

Round 1 he notched up 110, very nice start. But round 2 he played the worst game of his career with a measly 11! 11!!! And the fantasy coaches panicked. It was round 2, and people wanted to offload him before his price plummeted. In yet another example of why people should keep hold of there premiums, Harvey responded with an almost career best 176 that very nearly saw him reach his break-even. This made me happy.

Across the first 10 rounds he scored 5 centuries, and 4 scores of 53 or less, at an average of 87. But, as the young bodies started to tire, Harvey stepped up and scored 7 centuries at an average of 111.50 across the last 12 rounds.

However, Harvey had an inconsistent year. A standard deviation of 37.70 is alarmingly high.

But, we must remember...
- Harvey is a true superstar
- At his age, it was remarkable he played all 22 matches this year
- He was the 2nd highest scoring forward of the year.

Come on, if you could get a forward that was guaranteed to play 22 rounds and average 100, you'd take it.

* Note, have now included prices from m0nty's fan planner. I'm not sure where his number came from but I don't doubt his wisdom! The problem with using m0nty's number is you can't compare players prices in 2010 with 2011 as the scale has changed. So both are included.

Boomer, Boomer, Boomer. One of my favourite players in the competition. It is hard to imagine him not contributing strongly for the Kangaroos, especially with a developing superstar midfield that should see some of the attention go off him.

I'm hoping Brent Harvey's 22.25 in front of goals is good enough for MPP status, I imagine it will be.

Decision:

I was happy with Boomer's output this year. He averaged over 100 in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010. He is very durable playing 125 out of 132 possible regular season games over the last 6 years. Those 7 he missed all came in 2009.

But, at 33 next year, you have to wonder how long he can keep it up for, and he is very pricey.

Boomer's on the short list for me, but age might stop me from selecting him.
