Player's Skills, the game engine and luck.

It's quite good as you can train up players. Sell whenever you want. Buy whenever you want. Fire whoever you want. Even have national teams which players can play for if they are good enough.

The don't score points persay, they play against other teams, so if you have a really good bowler and they has a bad batting lineup, he will probably take a big haul etc.
