Summary:

Once touted as Melbourne's saviour, before becoming a Judas (according to Brent Moloney) and heading to Carlton as one of their gun recruits. Carlton traded a first round pick, and I think they'd much rather have that now.

I once predicted McLean to win a Brownlow, he averaged over 100 SC in 2006, and things were looking bright. Since then, he has struggled with injury and form, and his career is at a crossroads. McLean has never played a full season (19 matches his record), so his durability has always been questioned.

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number

Price: $378,800 (no discount), $340,200 (10% discount), $302,400 (20% discount)
Position: MID

Carlton selected McLean for grunt, and he still may do that. Unfortunately, grunt players generally don't score high in SC. With Judd, Murphy, Simpson and Gibbs racking up the points, it is hard to see where McLean fits in that equation. He should get a 10% discount, very lucky if we get 20%. Can't see him averaging over 100.

Decision:

He is very cheap, and could prove a valuable risk. I question whether he is in Carlton's best 22, but should at least get a chance. McLean is an unlikely addition to my midfield, but with byes coming into play, decent mid-pricers could be gold. Will watch in preseason.

roo boys!

It's a no for me, I just don't want to take the risk on someone so injury prone, and if Blues are going well next year and he is out injured, he may not be able to slot back into the side.

maybe from me, will see his preseason

roo boys!

Yeah I think his preseason will really tell the story of how he will turn out.

I don't think he'll be an option for me

Aidans Blues

Doubt it, is too much of a risk with injuries for a bloke that is unlikely to average 100+

A no from me. If I am going to select a carlton mid there are far better options on offer

Torress

yep - NO!
don't rate him even if classified as a mid pricer. give me the option between him and daniel kerr, would def go for kerr and that is saying something

How do people feel about him now based on Monty's FanPlanner price of $215,900? I'm seriously thinking about picking him up at that price...
