Summary:

Burgoyne was billed as one of Hawthorn's gun recruits that would bring Hawthorn back to its 2008 glory years. Unfortunately, Burgoyne was injured early on (as were many other Hawks). Burgoyne played his first match in round 8, and Hawthorn were suddenly a better team, and the Hawk's 6-game losing streak ended.

Burgoyne took a while to warm up, with only 1 century in his first 8 games, before finishing with 5 centuries from the last 7 rounds at an average of 116.7, including a massive 171 against Freo's reserves in round 21. Also worth noting he scored 107 in the Hawk's losing final.

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number

Price: $528,600
Position: MID

Burgoyne's average of 99.53 is probably less than what he should average next year. With a full pre-season, I'd expect him to average around 110 if he is the player that everyone seems to think he is. Hawthorn have very good midfield support in Hodge and Mitchell, and Burgoyne adds that class factor.

Decision:

At $528,600, he is probably underpriced. Having said that, he isn't cheap. I'll be watching his preseason form and is a slight chance of getting my #3 midfield spot. Wait and see for me!

Will Burgoyne be a points-of-difference player for you?

DazBurg

he is an interesting one finished the year well an with  full pre season should come good I'll be watching him closely

Alex7089

I'm not sure didn't stand out to me this year and at that price should have me thinking.
Might take a look at him but don't think I can fit him in this time around.

Fletch74

Depends on whether he has a full preseason for me and how the Hawks are shaping up leading into Rd 1 as to whether he makes my team, but not for DT, only SC

Hawka

If he has a full pre season il for sure get him

SCADDICT

Full preseason you can't not pick him.........

He is made for SC. Still young enough to score well. Has taken Sewell's offensive spot in midfield.

thatguy

i looked at him late in the year when barlow went down but opted for judd. he is going to cause headaches next yr for coaches!

Junktimer

quite expensive, but could be an OK unique.

id have to say a touch and go.

MajorLazer

He is a nice unique. May upgrade to him later in the season.

Hawka

at this stage he has turned to a lock

+1, touch and go for me, will like to see how he starts the season before making a decision

Alex7089

Same here. I wouldn't mind him, obviously he's a great player, I will have to watch him through the pre-season.

MajorLazer

If I don't start with Hodge, it makes it easer to upgrade to him if he starts well.

Alex7089

Yeah I dunno. I will probably start with one or the other.
I think it would be difficult to have both of them and then Buddy/Cyril. Too many Hawks o_0

But worth a look none the less, cheaper than Hodge, but better value? That is my question.

MajorLazer

It is hard to have neither of Buddy or Cyril. Nearly every team will have one. Hodge could be a unique because of his position change. Could work out better for me as less people could have him.
