as a Blues supporter and being impartial, i looked at it, looked at it, considered the weather and i believe is wasn't a free kick. Wet conditions, and there were many occasions during the last quarter where "technical" free kicks did not get paid. Many.
There were worse cruder tackles all night that were let go.

Couldn't care less who went through but these little idiot umpires think they are superstars. They see an oportunity to get their little heads on TV and they go for it.

We have been saying for a while now that umpires will decide a game and bingo i think has happened

Saw it and thought nah. It could of been taken as a push in the back but from what I heard from others watching the match, there were times in the match where it wasn't called. So why bother when the game was actaully going to be decided by it >:(.

I agree with HP, the umpires have been so inconsistent it is just ridiculous.

Some games we are singing their praises for umpiring fairly that day (rare occasion) and then there are times like these. This thread so far has been good because their have been no bias opinions, a Blues supporter, Two Bombers and a Roo.

I can't wait for the day we get robots umpiring the AFL ;)

Agree. Makes up for the goal in the GF that hit the post from Hawkins.... There is always going to be grey areas in footy. Luck is always a factor.

I don't think it was that decision that cost us the game anyway. 1 goal 7 in the last quarter when St. Kilda had put up the shutters may have something to do with it. Shades of the GF.

Make umpires professional (full time wage) and you would get better quality. Until then, I'm not a huge fan of criticizing them.

Umpires can't umpire the game in slow motion, if they could we'd still be in Round 4!

In full speed the free kick was there... Yet, slow motion camera tells a different story.

For me though, when I saw it live I thought it was in the back, and if I was umpiring and the same situation came around I'd pay the free kick. (and yes I have umpired games of footy b4).

People need to remember these umps only have 1 or 2 seconds per decision to make the right call. They're not going to get it right 100% of the time.

Actually, Cameron, you just lost yourself the game for tackling illegally and conceding a free kick.
That and the shots at goal you missed that 'cost you the game'
That and almost a whole quarter in your forward 50 for 1 goal 'lost you the game'
Saints were better, deserved the win and got it, the free could of gone either way, spirit of finals and the game, bring weather in, could of let it go. In the book, it was a free.
