What did you do wrong in 2010?

If you finished with a ranking in the top 1000 this year, well done, you can consider yourself among the best DTers in the country. If you were ranked outside the top 1000, I think it is time to reflect on the most obvious mistakes you made so you don't make them again next year. Let's forget about how well you did in your leagues for now - I won my only league, but I still finished outside the top 10,000 overall.

For me, picking Leon Davis (too risky and not much upside), Chris Yarran, Lachie Henderson (both were very unlikely to average 70+, never mind the 90+ I would have wanted) and Relton Roberts (complete spud), and not picking Podsiadly to start off with were all big mistakes. I also paid too much when I traded in Jonathan Brown, and didn't trade in Rockliff when I had the chance. That's just the mistakes I made in the forward line. Other mistakes included picking Kennelly and Ladson, and using 9 trades in the first 6 trade periods. I only managed to average over 2000 and win my league because of good trades and good luck. Next year I will be including less purely speculative picks (like Kennelly, Yarran and Henderson), and I will not be doing any trades until after round 4, barring LTIs.

So, what did you do wrong, and what have you learned from it?

missing out on fyfe, pods and rockliffe when they were on the bubble and jumping on JKT, Gray, Shuey (GUN), sylvia when injured, and finally JIZZberts. looking for ward to a top 10 k finish next year :)

Not picking Sandi, and stupidly choosing Kerr at the beginning.

X2. Add Foolishly taking Mark Seaby as your number 2 ruck man to my list as well.

not gettin fyfe/rockliffe
deciding on gibbs instead of boyd at the start of the year
trading brown in for cyril, brown then missed a month and cyril scored 143 (lost that week)
picking naitanui, o'keefe, higgins
and picking relton

So many things I can't write down.

I'll get to it next weekend ;D. It could be quite a long list ::).

Aimed for top 10k and closest I got was after round 20 when I hit 13k ::). I've got some work to do :P.

Saving trades and not making money early on. Injuries to premium players and rookies. Players having a good first half of the year then dropping off

A lot of these 'mistakes' are actually just bad luck. Unless you've got a crystal ball, or an inside contact with the coaches, then there is a degree of luck involved in your choices and could be the difference between making top 1000 or out of the top 10k.

For example if Riewoldt hadn't done his hammy then I wouldn't have wasted a trade by getting Brown and then benching him for so long.

It would be good to get someone who is top 1000 to list their team and list the trades that they made (and when).

Yeah I got stung with that one as well

Too many early trades especially on non-playing to playing rookies.

Probably relied on established names from previous years rather than picking up in form players as the season wore on.  e.g. ROK, J Brown etc etc

Reiwoldt to Brown
M Clark to Seaby

Biggest 2 mistakes I made

glam77

only picking 1 prem ruck, and then i could never justify upgrading any of my others for the sake of a saving a trade. this was costing my 30-40 points every week, and then 130-140 when sandi went down.

picking up injury prone players (rob murphy, nathan crack-whore, dangerfield and gray). Injuries are bad luck, but picking injury prone players is a bad move

My DT suffered when I forgot to trade out my useless rookies before round 1 lock-out. Never really recovered from that bit of unprofessionalism
