Master Q

Today, I had a real hard thought about something. Essendon supporters, why are you so angry, and why do others think they are pathetic. I think people are being to harsh, why should Essendon be doing well?

You can't expect a team to constantly be up their in the AFL. This isn't soccer. It's like saying Geelong will finish in the top 4 for the next 10 years. For those people who haven't noticed, Essendon won a premiership in 2000, and off the top of my mind came runners up in 99'. The only team who is still up there from  Pre-Geelong Dominance Era are Sydney, who only won 1 flag. Plus, they aren't doing very well, I mean they didn't finish top 4.

Back Onto Essendon Now
Since then, Hird, Lloyd and Lucas all have retired, the only one remaining now is Fletcher - Old, Injury Prone Fletcher. Sheeds left the Dons not because of how long he's been there and not because of a need of change, he left because the Dons were in trouble, much like Pim Ver-how do you spell it.

In came Knights, now he did he really do that badly? He recruited Pears, Hurley and Gumby, and has worked hard on other players.

Essendon finished what 8th in 2009? Not to bad, sure they had a bad year but they do have a good list in my mind.

Not saying Knights did very well, just saying that Essendon supporters should keep there heads up.

well Q i see alot of positives in essendon's list there's alot of potentioal there especially in KP players e.g hurley,[ears, hooker, gumby, carlise (i know early on him but for a skinny kid done well inmarking contests seemed gumby got pushed aside easier then him though gumby's not the big bodied himself is still bigger then this kid plus 12 marks against brissy was a nice display)

the trouble is the smaller ones in the midfield we have your star in watson but besides that not to much sure personally i like hocking not the most graceful but alot of mongrel about him especially after watching him when he copped the boot to the face and got stitched up and kept going

jetta seems to have finally had the penny drop which is good and personally alot of people scream atthe stupid things reimers does but i love him least he has the confidence to back himself and try and make something happen

well i could go on and on bout all the players since my brother Brat pack and i did run our own essendon website 2 years ago lol....i better get to the point

the thing that stood out to me for essendon when we took down the saints twice hawks once bulldogs once and gave some of the other top teams a run for their money yet done nothing against the lower teams on the ladder

is pressure earlier in the year essendon was the number 1 ranked team for tackles till the season wore on and it dropped off due to injury and such but also that was the one flaw with knights game plan and no back up was got flat out all the time and by halfway through the year your players are burnt out physically and mentally.....that is what i would say is the one thing knights himself done wrong and led to his sacking.....we have alot of young good players but having 1 gameplan and no back up and that one style is flat out all the time is almost unsustainable   look at geelong they are the benchmark and they a quick and fluid  with their style of play yet of course atm they have better players and more skillful one rotating through the midfield in particular but even they have shown this year in some games where they haven't been playing that well but just sustaing things until bang the switch gears and kick into flat out....but they weren't trying to do it for 100% of the game....

well that's my 2 cents out of the dollar i'll keep the other 98 cents for now as not to make this even longer
:)

Knights did not draft Gumby...
Knights was shower, Essendon are going to the shower not entirely because of him but he seemed to just sit there and watch it happen.
He recruited a couple of promising players ah well done quite a feat there that he wouldn't of even done...

I will be supporting our new coach, hopefully he has some more guts.

Watch this space Alex... The side will perform better in the next couple of years because these are up and coming players, some of which were recruited by Knights, but the credit will go to the new coach!! That is what is ridiculous about this!!

We sack a coach based on sponsors and membership revenue, and don't realise that it takes time to develop players and that we had a tough draw this year, and that we made the finals last year, then lost 2 senior players in Lloyd and Lucas.

The Essendon hierarchy should be sacked themselves. This is only a result of the presidents lunch/dinner in which Evans was booed by members... Yes we will improve in the next few years, but not directly because of the new coach, but because of the recruiting that Knights did whilst he was at the club!! That's what sucks about this.

We may as well change our name to Richmond or St Kilda now!!

yeah i see what your saying but then people could also argue when we made the finals last year with lloyd still there and paddy playing such a pivotal role in the ruck well  they were recruited under the sheedy era although knights was bendigo coach for 2 or 3 years aswell...i'm not saying this because well knights still had to get effort out of the players already their but just saying tat new coach's always will get the credit but the list they inherit is basically the last coach's doing anyways....i was not one calling for knights head either i was well what you
'd say as sitting on the fence i could see wither sides arguments but i think his biggest downfall as i said in post above was lack of plan B and a kamakize style of football that made it too tiring to kept up defensive pressure in ways of tackles and such for a whole year

Fletch74

I see your point DazBurg. He did lack a Plan B, but I still thought that on principles and what he has managed to bring to the club on recruiting ahould be looked at to. maybe, that should have been part of the review, that he develop other plans, not just a kamakze style of footy that saw us get smashed left, right and centre...

yeah it is unfortunate and i think the saddest thing for knights is after making the finals last year people had higher expectations for this year but in the off season with lloyd, lucas, lovett and mcphee all gone that was like pretty much 1000 games of experiance gone and at times this year we looked like we needed more leadership....not knocking jobe i mean that there was too many kids and not enough senoirs to make something happen like lovett could do or lloyd...then add the draw we had this year and i even said to my brother who is brat packon here that essendon wouldn't make finals this year......so i think knights was a little hard done by...but i think the flogging's near the end of the season was the nail in his coffin that's when he should of trie something alittle bit different but full credit to him for sticking to his guns just sad the way it turned out for him......but i fgor one won't look back on him as a waste of 3 years as people make it out to be the game time and expreance for the youth will play a part in our success in the next 5 years....since he done like a geelong and tried to raise a core group of players together  so when they hit 24 or 25 they will have worked out their own strenghs and weaknesses within a group and how they play and they will all gel together into a great team
