Hello fellow fanfootyites...

I'm thinking of running and organising a new fantasy game, tentatively entitled 'squadron'. Me being not the most computer literate person in the world would mean the comp would be run by people PMing me teams, moves, etc.

The Concept

NO TRADES. In real-world AFL, you simply don't trade mid-season. It doesn't happen! So my idea is to select a squad of 44 players (salary cap to be determined). And a team selected from these players during the year.

We will use the same starting spread as SC/DT - i.e. 7 backs, 6 mids, 7 forwards, 2 ruck. With 6 back-up backs, mids and forwards, and 4 back-up ruckmen. Positions will be the same as SC/DT, and MPP will also be the same (and maybe some new rules depending on what SC/DT change). Captain, Vice-Captain as normal.

Selecting a team

Price of each player will be the average of the 2 SC/DT scores (i.e. if player x is $400k in SC, and $300k in DT, the price in squadron will be $350k).

Only THREE players allowed from each team.

Another restriction will be popularity. Based on the number of selections at the end of the 2010 season in SC/DT, players will be divided into 4 categories:

Popular

A maximum 10 players from the most popular players from last year.

Average

A maximum 18 players from the mid-ranged popular players from 2010.

Unique

A maximum 18 players from the most rare selections of 2010.

New

No limit.

So fairly liberal limits I think, feel free to give an opinion!

Scoring

Will be the average score of each player's SC/DT score in a given round.

Minimal Team Maintenance

Given we'll all be focusing on our SC/DT teams, we won't have time for yet MORE fantasy games. So, their is the option of just leaving your team once you've selected it, and never looking at it again. How?

Well, with your 13 backmen for example, simply rank your backmen in order of preference:

1. Brown
2. Gillard
3. Abbott
4. Hockey
5. Swan
6. Bishop
7. Rudd
8. Conroy
9. Tuckey
10. Albanese
11. Crean
12. Wilkie
13. m0nty

With your first 7 being your starting 7 for your backline. If say #2 and #6 aren't available in any given week, #8 and #9 will automatically be included, etc.

To avoid donuts, if in the unlikely event that 7 or more backmen aren't available in a given week, players from other positions will be selected to fill in at HALF points unless they a MPP.

You can change your order at any time if you wish.

Similar for Captain - again worth double points - simply rank players in order of preference for Captain.

How to enter?

As next season comes closer, a spreadsheet will be uploaded to this site with all the details on how to select a team, etc.

Comments and thoughts?

Gonna be a long pre-season....

Your PM's will be overflowing. Lol Besides all that a great concept.

Would a subsitute email acc be easier say like Gmail from google which has a great storage size. Just a thought to help you along.

If you get stuck make it a common one with say 2 or 3 people having access to help you along, having done this to help set up a community based group. Helps you in an unforseen emerg etc.

Just a thought!

The game sound good, just how it is run seems really hard. Like Naste said, if your doing by yourself you will be bombarded with PM's...

Just so you know, I'm Here To Help if you need  ;)

It will be interesting to see the strategies used.. Some will go for as many premiums as possible to put in the starting 22 and have bench cover that is weak. Others will probably try and balance it out a bit more. Looks like an interesting game. I cant help but how can i be apart of this?

I can only do the very basic of spreadsheets ::).

Oh, people seem keen! I like this.

@naste, yeah, good idea about separate email accounts. Will do that!

And I'm good at spreadsheets, that won't be a problem, websites not so much.

I've had limited time to have a look at the site on the weekend, and when I did get on and see this I just thought it was more to do with websites, hence I echoed that I wasn't good with computers. Well, I'm not with websites, but I am with spreadsheets, so if you need a hand in that area Ossie, I can help.

yeh great idea os ill keen to be in and happy to help if needed :D
