Today, as Essendon got smashed, I was watching some of the young talls and though 'bright future these boys have.' Carlisle looks a likely type, like the look of him in his 2 games, Hardingham has a very nice leap, and dare I say it, Neagle can take a mark  :-X
Perhaps our future not as dim as I thought.

Hawka

add in gumby and hurley wen pears come bak nxt yr looks pretty good but pretty young and raw few yrs needed yet

Alex7089

Yeah.
In like 3-5 years they will start to gun it.

Unfortunately I don't know WHO will be in their as a small forward... Maybe Davey, but I hoped he would develop as a midfielder or wingman.

HillHero13

hardingham played back up ruck for a bit and killed it...

Alex7089

Yeah but when Ryder plays there will be no need, he mainly went in because f his height/jump which is what Ryder does

Yeah Carlisle was the highlight of the game for me... Once he's bulked up he will be very good, Hardingham great mark but needs to work on his goalkicking, I personally think he will go bak to playing as a defender like he was before he came to us...

Neagle, Has it in him to be a good solid FF but he needs to lift his work rate and speed, then he will get better... why we should have kept Lloyd to teach him.

Fletch74

There is always hope lads. As I've been preeching, there is no need to change the coach yet. We have to realise that we made the finals last year, we then lost two experienced forwards. Surely no one really expected us to do much this year...

We have a really bright future, and when we get some experience into those forwards, we will gun it. Gumby will be a much better player next year. he needed the season without injury as just an example. I personally can't wait for 2012 and beyond.

Torress

carlisle does look good and he does have a nice 'frame' with some training will sprout nicely hopefully.
neagle?? i'm really on and off this guy, only young mind u so patience is needed. tho next year is his last at the club IMO i don't think he is a League player. its easy to say ''get a big preseason into him then have a look'' but i don't think his body is capable of a big preseason. u pretty much gotta be a runner these days even FF needs to work very hard. only time will tell but i've lost a bit of hope with neagle.

hey lads what about Mark Williams?? whats wrong with him now - ankle?? hasn't he got bung knees as well!!! give him another chance IMO he already has some runs on the board, Negale doesn't!!

Boomz

Williams was a dud pick. Surely there was a better option... he spelled used goods and has done nothing and will never do anything at senior level again, will have fun playing vfl till he gets delisted.

SCADDICT

Bottom line: Don't expect too much for a while guys, we've only got a few dependable players atm(watson, fletch, hille etc)

The problem with Essendon is that there is no sign whatsoever of a midfield developing. I think we can agree in modern football that this is somewhat important.

Watson can't carry this team forever and guys like Reimers, Houli, Zakarakis, Monfries & Prismall who should be moving into the midfield and stepping up are in fact going backwards.

My question is - are these guys not that good or are they not being coached very well?

SCADDICT

Good point Cruseon. Alot of people simply ignore the fact the list is not developing when looking for someone to blame. And those guys you named are definitely capable of moving to the midfield. There have been far lesser players who have done so successfully.  Stanton, Winderlich have also been given alot of time and lets be honest have not lived up to their full potential.

Alex7089

I think Winders as much as I love him would be better off half back and move Dempsey into the midfield/wing.

Dempsey can't play in the backline, he is dying to be attacking moving forward getting lots of the footy- like a midfielder, but when he tries to do that he leaves his man behind and often gets scored against. I think Winderlich could run off without letting his opponent do to much damage.
Also his disposal is better so when he actually GETS the ball he won't TURN IT OVER and cost us goals.
There are others we have all been waiting to play in the midfield but Knights isn't playing them there.

Maybe we need to give Knights time to develop as a coach, just like we wait for players to develop.

Alex you don't wait around for a senior coach to develop, that is asking for failure. You choose a senior coach because you think he is developed enough for the top job. You don't see companies putting in some rookie in as CEO and saying, he'll be good in a few years.

Regardles of what happens going forward 2010 will be regarded as the lost year where nothing wa achieved for the future. There was no list management of note, no development of mid tier players and whilst you tried out a few kids, every team does that, especially when they miss the finals.

Completely agree.
