AFL:Three key Cats players fall ill AFL Cats
GEELONG, Aug 18 AAP - Three key Geelong players have fallen ill ahead of Friday's big AFL match against Carlton.
The Cats are keeping a close eye on Brad Ottens, Joel Selwood and Jimmy Bartel as they try to overcome a bout of the flu.
The Cats thrashed the Western Bulldogs last Saturday night and the Bulldogs have also been hit hard by illness over the last couple of weeks.
The Cats are likely to make at least a couple of changes this week regardless of whether those three players are declared healthy for the Carlton game.
Key defender Harry Taylor is certain to return from injury and coach Mark Thompson is confident that midfielder Joel Corey will also be ready for a recall.
Defender Tom Lonergan must pass a fitness test and captain Cameron Ling is likely to have another week off as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
Thompson said forward Max Rooke is running out of time before the finals as he tries to recover from a long-term knee injury.
But the Cats are investigating some form of scratch match program over the next few weeks because their VFL side will end their season this weekend.
Thompson said it is important that players on the fringe of senior selections can have some form of match practice during the final series in case they are needed.

honestly my team is going to more resemble a soccer outfit than an AFL side!

Holz

thankyou dual position players and shuey, i have both bartel and selwood, but i can swithc PAV from the forward line and put shuey and P.Davis on the field, Not the strongest situation but no donuts

LF

I reckon the bigger concern is if they score 70-80 instead or normal century

In an article on AFL.com Thompson says none of the mentioned players are in doubt.

Three other star Geelong players, Brad Ottens, Joel Selwood and Jimmy Bartel, have also come down with the flu, but they are not in doubt for the meeting with the Blues.

I was about to post that myself Clint.

Everyone settle the flower down and wait until tomorrow when the teams are named.

Also the Cats play friday night, so you'll have to trade if needs be after the final teams are annouced...

Boomz

"Despite media reports Bomber said Bartel, Selwood and Ottens WILL be fine this week. Watch his press conference on Cats website for unedited ans"

Thats from catsinsider on twitter no need to fret yet guys Bomber isn't Voss!

wasnt trying to alarm.. just putting up the AAP report i saw!

Davoo

if selwood and bartel are out, well there is no way im trading selwood. i just cant trade players who are in terrific form, it feels like your trade is doing nothing. have shuey and hardingham for cover...
