this convinces me the AFL is the most incompetent sporting body in australia

UPDATE 4.25pm: West Coast has accepted a one-week ban for defender Eric Mackenzie after the AFL gave him the wrong penalty on Monday.
Mackenzie is ineligible to play the Eagles' home game against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday night after pleading guilty this afternoon to striking Fremantle's Michael Johnson in last weekend's derby.

The Eagles only became aware of the penalty today after a league bungle on Monday led to the club being told Mackenzie could escape with a reprimand.

The mistake arose when the AFL failed to add 93.75 carry-over demerit points from Mackenzie accepting a reprimand for rough conduct against Essendon forward Jay Neagle in Round 16.

The demerit points from that offence two weeks ago slipped through the league's computer records when the West Coast defender's name was incorrectly filed after the AFL match review panel cited him last Monday.

The Eagle's name was entered as "McKenzie" instead of "Mackenzie".

A league official has contacted West Coast football manager Neale Daniher today with the bad news.

The AFL issued a statement this afternoon that said: "Player Mackenzie's carry-over demerit points from within the last 12 months were not added to his record, and he was incorrectly advised that he was able to accept a reprimand.

They shouldn't be 'entering' names like that. They should be adding to the profile or already profiled players ffs. EVERY player should be profiled, and you should search for them!! Don't create a new one! Amateur mistake
