I did a bit of research and Fremantle have done very well out of the rookie draft over the years.

2009
Broughton - Pick 79 (elevated from rookie pick)
Barlow - Rookie pick 8
Silvagni - Rookie pick 24

2008
Matt Deboer - Rookie pick 19
Clancee Pearce - Rookie pick 48
Jay Van Berlo - - Rookie pick 62
Broughton - Rookie pick 74

2005
Duffman - Rookie pick 7

2002
Crowley - Pick 55 (was delisted and rookie picked in 2004)

2001
Sandilands - Rookie pick 33

2000
Roger Hayden - Rookie pick 21

1998
Grover - Rookie pick 32

They have been excellent in this area. I think mark Harvey has to be a clear favourite for coach of the year this year, especially becuase of the way he can get the best out of the rookie draft. The recruiter's over there must be very good.

I put the last 2 years of drafting down to the new recruiting manager - Brad Lloyd.  He was appointed in early 2008 and IMO has single handedly made a big difference to our recruiting.

It really shows that recruitment matters in this business.

Freo, Geelong, Tawthorn and Collingwood have done it really well - not just with the high picks, but picking the right low ones.

Whereas Richmond, and even Carlton, have struggled in this area and it shows.

Well they've exceeded all expectations this year, and Barlow has been the find of the century. They've ceratinly made other clubs take notice of the rookie draft.

They've given those rookies a chance which have seen alot of them blossom.

Broughton a massive steal. Same with Sandi and Barlow when you think of it :P.

Agree, they've focused on Rookies a lot, Play them to get games into them and Rest them when needed.

Sandi: Pick 33  :o Why wouldn't anyone pick a player that tall?

Because he was very clumsy and verging on useless when he was rookie drafted.  It was quite a risk to pick him.
