I think I saw Hirdy give you a hug a few years ago :)

I wish I was there :'(. Think I didn't watch much footy that year and was able to catch the game. Only really got into watcing footy each week a couple of years ago.

Man did that match keep me on the edge of the coach :o. Loved every minute of it against the eagles. Back and forth and that kick was a beauty.

Found out today I'll actually be going to this game. Instead of watching it from the comfort of my (heated) home, I'll be on the top deck of some stand freezing my butt off.  It will be worth it if they win, but if they lose it's gonna be a long drive back home.

Jealous :(

The Case For Geelong....
I believe Geelong will win on Saturday night because-
1. Our recent history suggests that Geelong is still a better team assuming both teams play to their potential.
2. A settled midfield and back line. Collingwood will not be able to score as freely as they have in recent games. The cats have shown a couple of times recently that they are capable of cutting off supply to dangerous forwards like Didak and Leon Davis etc.
Collingwood have a good spread of goal kickers, but the Cats have at least 4 of the leagues top defenders. There is a question mark currently about the quality of their tall forwards, Cloke, Dawes and even Leigh Brown struggles against Geelong.
3. Geelongs midfield is all class. After Swan, Ball and Pendlebury Collingwoods drops off significantly.
4. Ottens, even though not yet 100% fit, will be able to match it with Jolly. And he will get help from Hawkins and Pods.
5. Geelongs "B" grade players, Varco, Wojo, Byrnes,Hunt and Pods etc. are easily a match for Collingwoods. Some of them are having their best season, Stokes may have won the game for us against Hawthorn.
6. Geelongs scoring potential is better than Collingwoods. The cats have some top small forwards and when the midfielders rest in the forward line they usually kick a goal.
7. Swan is a problem, being Collingwoods best player, but Gablett seems to love playing the Pies and usually wins that battle.
8 The cats have the best tagger in the league, so whoever Lingy plays on will need help.
9. Geelong play the MCG as good as anyone.
10. Collingwood pride themselves on their tackling pressure, but so do Geelong, and they are just as good at getting the contested ball.
11. Geelong players, by and large, are better looking

Your captain is Cameron Ling and you say you're better looking!!!

Good points bunyip, couple of disagreements.

Jolly is a better ruckmen than Ottens, and Brown v Hawkins/Pods is even also.

I agree Geelong's midfield is better. The B-grade Collingwood players though - Toovey, Goldsack, Wellingham (prolly won't play), Brown, Blair, Beams, Sidebottom - are all having career best years also, I don't think Geelong have an edge there.

Collingwood has slipped up against Brisbane, Geelong against Carlton and Adelaide, so anything can happen on the day :)

GAME ON!

.... also, the Pies have poetry. Poetry almost won the 2007 PF (I was saying all that week that Geelong are better than Collingwood in every line, but pies have poetry on their side :) and it almost worked. (read: plz, plz)

I accept defeat in regards to Lingy. But of the other 10 points, I'm hoping I'm right in 6 of them, then we might win.
You know, it may come down to how many of our "B" graders win on the night. Given that Swan, Gablett, Didak and Chappie will probably do a bit of damage. We will see. It should be a great game.

CFC 1979

on one week at a time the other night they rated the two teams
TOP 25 PLAYERS - A GRADE = GUN, B GRADE = USEFUL BUT NOT GUN YET, C GRADER = LEARNING

Geelong - 14 A graders, 9 B graders and 2 C graders
Pies - 2 A graders, 20 B graders and 3 C graders

Next year Pies B graders will jump up into A grade status i think

Cats have the wood just

ossie85

A graders = Swan, Didak?

Surely Pendlebury, Maxwell, Presti and Harry O are around that mark also!

Cruiseon

14 to 2???

Must have been the same panel who picked the All Australian team in 2007. About 9 Geelong players (including Cam Mooney?) and no Pies.

bunyip

hey........you can't argue with the experts cruis. They sit around for hours thinking about this stuff. I personally think the Pies have done REALLY well for a "B" grade team ;D

bunyip

I must admit I'm getting excited about tonight. I hope it's a good game. Geelong to win by 2 or 3 goals would be tops. I'd like to see a real high scoring shoot out. It doesn't happen enough these days.

Master Q

Haven't checked this thread in a while -

Bunyip you had some real points there, the only one which is a bit questioning is the one about Ottens v Jolly, but all the other ones are very valid.

I'd say Collingwood have 3 A's, the 2 that were named plus Pendles. Presti is in bad form, but usually he would be an A, but he isn't one now. Maxwell and Harry are defiantly not A's, I remember we had a poll on here a while ago and it asked who do you think was the worst captain, and Maxwell won by a mile. As for Harry O, not to many things you can say but he isn't good enough for A, maybe B or B+ tops.

SCADDICT

Can't believe the hype on this game. Didn't the cats already beat the pies this year? Whats so different about this time?

There's been a lot of media build up. Every day it seems some Collingwood player is on the back page holding the premiership trophy. It does get infectious, and, lets face it, we LOVE beating Collingwood, and HATE losing to them. (not that it happens that much) ;D
