it seems were back to were our defence was at the start of the year.the denfence had picked up but after conceding 20 marks i50 yesterday it seems our back arnt tall enof gibson 189,murphy 189,startton 189 gilham 192 and shoenmakers(who didnt play yesterday)193 i reckon in the draft or trades we need a decent key over 195cm to take the bigger talls

Master Q

Your missing Croad...

Definitely. They don't grown on trees!

I'm shopping around Jack Anthony - he can play back - what will the Hawks offer in return?

a pie with sauce if u keep him?

Hawka

croady wasnt that tall anyway we need some1 taller than he was

Justin Bieber

Wouldn't you love a Pears or Hooker now? :P.

Reckon they should draft a tall rather than recruit one from another team. Can try and mould a younger body to play for more years.

Master Q

That would be the right thing to do, but not in this case. Look at it this way:

Hawks have a better now then they will have in 10 years, and are a Flag Smokie (maybe). Getting a young back wouldn't help when he's needed, unlike a 25 year old guy...

dylsta05

yay go pears and hooker:)

Justin Bieber

Can you think of a tall back who would be willing to move?

bunyip

Why does he have to be tall? The Hawk defenders are just not brilliant players, thats all. They do their job most weeks, but they rely on midfield pressure to stop quality forward entry.
The Hawks main problem this year has been their rucks.

Hawka

Rucks?? maybe in our form slump but renounf has improved so much and looks like he can b a great ruckmen in a few years and skipper has improved since he was at the dogs not the best pair but ok i just hope we dont pick simon "gives away frees" taylor whos fit

Justin Bieber

And Bailey if he can finally get over his injuries ::).

Renouf seems a much better ruck than previous years. Probably not as much competition for his spot ;).

Hawka

yer bailey will be good with some games in him

Cruiseon

I'm not offering him up but Browne from Collingwood is quite a good player. He's been sitting in the twos playing quite well but with no senior spot. Then Presti gets injures and he slots back into the team nicely, for probably 1 or 2 weeks max.

As I said I want him to stay but he's the kind of guy (only 22) who plays big and when he gets a run in a side (like Ben Reid is now doing for us) could really come good.

Now I've told you that, hands off and go away.

Sorry hawka, I can't agree. Your rucks may have improved as the season has progressed, as you said, but I don't believe they are up to the standard required in a top team.
However, you do have a top notch roving department, and they fairly easily make up for that.
You obviously watch the hawks every week, have your rucks aquitted themselves well against quality opposition ruck combos? Or do your rovers shark opposition rucks?
I haven't looked at any stats, they can be deceiving anyway.
My argument is that you don't HAVE to have tall backs to have an effective backline. As long as they are not a bunch of midgits.
