I just can't but lol at this thread. Essien is the best holding midfielder and 2nd to only Xavi as the best midfielder in the world. Seriously. It isn't even close. Gerrard is no where near as good as he was 2 seasons ago. Him going forward as a second striker was the worst thing for Steven and Liverpool. As for Lampard, well, he is good and has overtaken Gerrard as England's number one midfielder. Gerrard+Lampard in the midfield would be lol (see England). Essien+Lampard in the midfield is awesome (see Chelsea 2004-2010) . Essien missed the Champions League this season and I guarantee you, they would of beaten Inter with Essien in their Side and most prob went on to the Final.

You only have to properly watch a game of Football to see what and why Essien is the best midfielder in the Premier League and probably the best player. If I had to name a dream team, Essien would be the first name on my list. So would a lot of Coaches and Players. Most Chelsea fans concur that Essien is their best player. The others are the ones that think Terry is better then Carvalho and have no idea what they are talking about and only watch stat football and play FIFA.

England player of the year 07' PFA fans player of the year 08-09 WORLD player of the year 08-09...Essien hmmm African player of the year 06 (i am sure Gerrard would of won that one if he was african) and yep thats about it, so i dont think i would have any troubles  :D

Football Writers Association Player of the Year.  It is English Journalists who decide who they thought the best player of the year was.

Steven Gerrard wouldn't even be on many peoples top 20 lists anymore, let alone top 10 or first. Thing about Gerrard and Lampard, they can fade in and out and then disappear from games. Essien and Xavi however, they do not. They are always in and influencing the game. I can't tell you enough how good Essien is. He is the EPL's best midfielder and best player. If you are comparing Gerrard to Essien, I mean, how can you even stand up and debate it? Gerrard has been appauling. If you are trying to debate Lampard and Essien then yeah, I get it, but Gerrard? Really?
