So with all this discussion, what is the bare minimum expectation for Essendon next year?

Given that last year was an overachievment of making finals (as the final against Adelaide suggested) and this year if you finish, say 10th, it is an underachievment - what about next year?

2011 will be Knights 4th year as coach, surely if the Bombers don't make the finals & possibly win a final, his reign will be deemed a failure. I believe in giving a coach a proper go. 5 years is more than any coach can expect in this era. And to be fair it is not as if he inherited a basket case like Melbourne or Richmond, he inherited a side, which, is well, pretty much in the same position as it is today.

Look, to be honest I don't think Essendon supporters can complain too much. They lost some key personnel last season and have had long term injuries to key players this year, Some of their recruits have not fired or are injured......I would just be hoping for better luck next year.
If Neagle and Gumbleton can stand up the rest of this season and get some good games under their belt, who knows.

We will find out at the end of the season if Knights knows whathis doing. We need to cleanout the list and get rid of all the duds we have been carrying for the last few seasons.

Like any CEO, the first year is clean-out year, the 2nd & 3rd are rebuilding and the 4th & 5th are cash in your chips time?

A bit over simplistic but basically true enough.
As I said though, i think they should just put this year down to experience, nothings gone right for them.
It must be very frustrating to see basket cases like Richmond and Melbourne climbing UP the ladder though, and Freo too, and Carlton, and Sydney, and Adelaide. (did I miss anyone) Oh yer Hawthorn.

I think you guys are too hard on Knightsy, give him a chance. How long has whatsisname been at Collingwood, and how many premierships has HE won. Bomber was at Geelong for AGES before we won anything.
