How Old Is Old

Out of curiosity I had a look at Geelongs list and looked at their age.
Under 25 years......27 players
26 - 29 years......15 players
30 and over......3
Geelongs oldest player is Darren Milburn who was 33 in April.
How does this compare with your team, and is it relevant?
I think Darren has a couple more good years in him.
If Darren is a 5 on a scale of 10, how do you rate your oldest player?
There are a few players in some clubs over 30 who are not finished by a long shot I think. Is  it  significant that over half of Geelongs players are under 26. (Gablett is 26).
I have noticed that Geelongs average age is higher than MOST clubs.
I may be wrong but I don't think there is a lot of difference between Geelong and the Saints or Maggies.

Compared to other clubs they are probably considered old. But they way you said, they don't seem all that old. Could continue for another 3-4 years at their rate.

Just had a quick look at the Collingwood list. Seems pretty close to that of Geelong.
Collingwood has:
27 under 25's
11 between 26-29
3 over 30

Freo only has 1 player who is currently 30 (Grover).  Tarrant and Hayden both turn 30 in December

Virtually identical to Geelong aren't they Ruckus. Yet I haven't heard anyone describe Collingwood as an ageing team.
The only player that I know of that we are likely to lose is Gablett. ($2m the first year is just too much to say no to).
As far as I know everyone else is staying. I bet that goes for the Pies to.
If our teams can keep most of the current list, why couldn't they be strong for a few more years.

How would you rate Grover in comparison to Milburn?

Essendons  problem is that they lost both their key forwards at once. Their replacement players are not quite ready yet. Next year they will be.

Let's hope for North's sake the Boomer Harvey can keep going, he doesn't really look like slowing down.

I would probably rate Grover slightly more important to Freo than Milburn is to Geelong.  Grover plays as a key backman where as Milburn doesn't.  Just from that point of view I think Grover is rated higher.

In skill and ability around the ground then Milburn wins that race quite easily.

Collingwoods over 30's are Tark's, Presti, and O'Bree. All have missed quite a few games. Presti is in good form now, and Tark's looking ok. Mick loves O'Bree, so it will be interesting as to whether we see him again this year or not. Barring injury it is hard to imagine.
All 3 have younger players nipping at their heels, looking for a spot.

The fact that they are missing games may indicate that they are slowing down a bit. Perhaps they may retire at the end of the year if they don't get a game in the finals.

Lockyer and O'Bree probably, Presti wants to play on and I think he should.

Master Q

Waite and Thorton our the oldest for us I think. I'd say Waite could be a 7.5 and Thorton a 6.5.

I agree MQ. Both very important players for Carlton.
