have to really get it out there...
im a massive eagles fan!
went to the 2005 grand final & was in tears at the end of the game
2006 was seriously one of the best moments of my life

but 2009/2010 eagles are just gutless!
the players dont give a sh!t and its looking to be our worst season ever
a few things i would do  if i was in charge to change the team around...
-first, lecras into the mids for a bit of class (has been likened to GAJ so use him thru the guts) (will make him a goal-kicking mid which eagles need)
-lynch to CHB, a bit of strength to take on monsters like jbrown, hall & has the tank to run with roo, pav and cloke not allowed in the forward50 & when he gets the ball outside of 80, to bomb it long to the square
-mackenzie to fullback with support from b.jones & waters
-naitanui to the wing to shake things up a bit, use his pace n freakishness to win the ball with space on the wing & run it into the forward 50
-schofield, mckinley, masten, swift, ebert & rosa dropped back to the WAFL for the year
-kerr, glass & shuey to the LTIs list
-elevate stevenson, strijk, weedon, hams and wilson
-keep a structured forward line with 2 main talls one leading CHF (in kennedy), one gorrilla full forward (wilson) with quality crummers & ball users around their feet in weedon & hams
-plus half forwards who can swap with the wingers - good pace & good skills!

or take weedon/hams off to put embley as a floating defenderin the backs or even send strijk back there as his kicking efficiency is up there

Good Effort In The Post, But I Don't Think You Have Coach Quality Yet ;)

One thing you need to understand, is you can't just magically change a players position.

Quotefirst, lecras into the mids for a bit of class
No Strength, Not a Usain Bold and doesn't have an extreme amount of class.

Quotelynch to CHB, a bit of strength to take on monsters like jbrown, hall & has the tank to run with roo, pav and cloke

No experience there, getting old, not enough skill to handle the likes of Pav and not enough Knowledge to handle Brown and Roo.

Quotenaitanui to the wing to shake things up a bit, use his pace n freakishness to win the ball with space on the wing & run it into the forward 50
Sorry, but that is a joke. Nic Nat isn't a winger.

----------------------------
Next thing you need to know, is that players don't develop in the space of 2 years. West coast have to much of an un-balanced team, to many key players are old, and to many high-future players are too young to play with them.

Quotewith quality crummers & ball users around their feet in weedon &  hams

This will take 2-3 years, key/experienced forwards could be gone or really old by then.

----------------------------------
Quoteplus half forwards who can swap with the wingers - good pace & good skills!

Maybe, but this will need draft picks, there are a few positions what are more needed in the Eagle line up. Backmen in my opinion.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
At this stage, I think your fist pick should be an Inside midfielder, because

gonna go ahead and disaggree with u there Q

1. lecras in mids: u dont need to be fast to be a good midfielder, he has great strength, probably one of the best small forward contested marks in the league, he has a very good football brain, one thing football needs these days with rugby players and africans coming into our game. look at haselby, swan, pendlebury, dal santo, etc they do not posses blistering pace but are creative and smart footballers
2. lynch actually played CHB for west coast back in 2004 where i think he had one of his best years, apart from his 80 goal year in 2006, but who wuldnt when u got kerr, judd and cousins putting it on the chest! freo turned tarrant into a quality back, as he had the knowledge to do what defenders did to him, lynch is dumb but not that dumb. browns strength is his willingness to throw himself into a contest, so lynch wuld just have to go with him
3. when richardson went to the wing in 2008 he nearly won a brownlow and he wasnt a wingmans asshole, nic nat has the x-factor, his pac and athletic ability suit the wing (probly his aerobic capacity the only thing to let him down) but in one-on-one with other wingmen he will win 80-90% of them

theres no magic to changing a players position, players arent locked as a forward or back or ruck or midfielder, they can adapt, probly did it a million times during their junior football.
im not saying put kerr into the ruck or anything drastic like that, ive put players characteristics, skills and abilities towards a position i think they can generally play and be more suited to that role in order to benefit the team structure.
as for dropping fallen stars, this will re-energise them and hopefully create some hunger to play and fight again, something which players like mckinley and masten need as they believe being an alf player is a right not a privelage
give the new kids a go, give the 2nd and 3rd year boys a reason to train harder

Woah Woah, ok, every single player can adapt, but not to every position.

Lecras: Every Mid you named before is very well built, good ball skills and are made for that position. Taking contested marks sometimes doesn't mean they have strength, Lecras isn't built as a Mid, not so much pace, I'd stick to the rookies.

Lynch: That was 04', he's now 6 years older, out of form, in a bad team, and is going to retire soon.

Nic Nat: Richo was a LEGEND! Richo did it, so anyone can! Not True. Nic Nat has the physical ability but not the skill. No inside midfielder skill.  Plus, what are you going to do when Cox leaves? Play a rookie as 1# Ruckmen and keep Nic Nat as winger?

As I said before, the Eagles are very un-balanced.

Could be a very long decade for the WCE especially whilst their friends down the road continue to build.

That said it is a proper test of the WCE Football club, lean times are when the true spirit of a club is formed just ask St.kilda or Western Bulldog fans!

ossie85

Careful they don't develop a losing mentality! Just ask Richmond...

browny_wce

i wuldnt mid being richmond atm
young and very talented midfield
a dominant forward
imagine richo back in that team

I meant over the last 25 years, but the last 7 weeks, but good point!
