It's now common knowledge, if you want to beat Geelong you deny them use of the ball, and tackle hard at the body when they have possession. Also have some quick small forwards to help kick your goals.
Go figure.

When I first read the name of the thread, I thought it was about Ablett admitting he's leaving ;D.

The best way to beat any team is deny them use of the ball. You also have to have constant defensive pressure on them. Saints were with them the entire way and waited for their chances.

Master Q

It just doesn't come like that yip. The coach can't say do this do that and they'll win.

roo boys!

I thought at first that it was about Q ;D

Hopefully Brad Scott reads this.....

Easier said then done! People have been saying this since Collingwood smashed Geelong in 2008, fat lot of good it has done since.

Constant pressure, deny the ball, tackle hard, small forwards kicking goals, maximise opportunities you get......If you nail all these I think you will be looking good against most teams. ;)

We Don't Need It :) Hey Valky, when is Freo winning a flag?

ossie85

I'd back Freo to win a flag before Carlton :)

Master Q

Really? I'm being Honest here, seriously, I reckon we could win one in a few years, Geelong getting old, I think It will be a Pies v Blues final soon, both relatively young teams.

Can you imagine Krooze,Murphy,Gibbs,Yarran,Betts,Gartlett and Setanta all at their prime :o

Kruize, Murphy, Gibbs - for sure, they are all champions.

But I think you're dreaming if you think that all four of Setanta, Garlett, Yarran and Betts will become dominate stars of the game. I can't see Betts playing much better than he is this year (has been playing very well and I think an All-Aus chance).

Freo on the other hand have some very promising youngsters as well - Hill, Palmer, Morabito, etc - Sandilands still has a few years left in him, and the only real concern is Pavlich's age. But, knowing Freo, they could crash next year.

Its been the same amount of time since both teams have won a premiership.  You last won 1 in '95 and Freo started in '95

Alright, I take back Setanta, was just checking if there were any more. Not sure about Betts, but still think he can get that Little bit better, but Ossie, Yarran and Gartlett, they have potential. Admit it.

Atm Freo rely to much on Sandi and Pav, something that they need learn. Not to sure about Morabito, a bit overated IMO.
