Would be good if we could record all FF members final rankings/scores for this season and then use them to make up a number of leagues for next year (naming them Fanfooty of course ;))

1 -16 would be div 1
17 - 32 would be div 2
etc etc

It would provide a great league contest because you would be up against people who scored similar to you.  It would also give a good chance of getting one of these leagues in the top league rankings on DT and SC (and getting FF free advertising).

Then at the end of that season you collate the scores/rankings again and organise the divisions for the next season.  That way its not just the same people in Div 1, 2, 3 etc each year.  It becomes performanced based.

Example

I finish 12th overall (out of FF members) so that would put me in Div 1.  If I have a bad year (or others have a great year) and I end up 50th (out of FF members) for that season, then I would be in Div 4 the following year.

You already utilise some sort of script (for sc) for the exteam feature to pull the players down in to the team plan.  I know you can somehow grab individual ranking details from DT (not sure about SC) as ffgenie does it (utilising team id number) - I am sure you have connections to get in contact with the creator if you need help on how to do it ;).

If you could utilise this then you could get FF users who are interested in joining these leagues to enter in their DT & SC team ID's (maybe record them against the FF username - not the forum username) and then they would be stored in the database and it wouldnt be such a manual nightmare.  You could record the league division against each username.

Would be a very basic sql script to collate the data, but I have a feeling you have that bit covered ;)

Obviously this could be for both DT & SC

Good idea Valk but i dont think m0nty wants to do this sort of stuff

I'm Happy With Our League System Already.

Bad thing with this competive idea is ill be in Div 20 and is doesn't give a chance to people struck by bad luck

Our league system is more a post and see who you can get.  This option would only take up 1 of your 3 league spots which means you could still be in leagues with friends from this site or other leagues that you may already have been in for a while.

I wouldnt call it bad luck, more bad coaching.  Bad luck would be getting 20 LTI's.

Its just an idea that I have been thinking of for a while and its purely an opt-in situation.  If you dont want to be a part of it then you dont have to.

m0nty seems to have his hands full most of the time. If anybody else puts their hands up, he probably would go through with it.

Sounds good but with ALOT of members, might have to start planning early ;).

I have no problem with you forumites organizing tiered leagues. I can't use the exteam feature to save team details because I have promised not to do so for privacy reasons. The BigFooty peeps seem to do okay in organization without SQL scripts. Good luck with it!

HillHero13

ill help out a bit with the leagues.. not so much the collecting stats though...

FYI, folks, that's an invitation to do something really good. We must do it right though! We are being "empowered".

I think more well-informed discussion is needed on the "who's who" of it. I think "contribution" needs to be recognised just as much as ranking. Else you can lose a lot of great contributors, to the community's detriment. Beware "elitism"!

Doubt I'll be able to help :( I'm alright with this idea it sounds good but will there still be the Dream Factory etc Leagues?

There can still be the dream factory (I would still like to be a part of it)

I am happy to help work out a way to collate the data.  If I can find a free hosting on the net with MYSQL, then could possibly host the data live on the net and I can write the scripts to access the data and present them to a website.  It wouldnt be anything flash, it would purely be to show and host the data.

I work in Oracle SQL everyday for a living so that shouldnt be any problems.  Would mean that you have to enter in your details yourself as I have no idea how to access the DT site to confirm rankings.

Would help out but no next to nothing about programming and stuff on the computer.

If its gathering people on the forum at the end of the season, I'll help out there :). Keeping up with school is no problem for me 8).

If we could come up with the plan and sort out all the details would you be willing to advertise it on the main site?

it is for others though..... ;D nah im going alright.

i may be able to help but I think Prospector's point is very warranted, there are many people who have amazing teams but hardly ever post on the forum, they just have accounts. perhaps make it you have to have a certain number of posts or above and then you sort those remaining teams? e.g 400+ posts or something, because if you don't then you won't be getting many main contributers to the site in the top leauges or divisions. because it is next year, there will be plenty of time for people that are going to be contributers. Then of course you will have to find out who is intersested too...

All though I agree, how will lets say 3 leagues, there aren't enough people above 400? Maybe an experienced league? Players who've been playing for more then 3 years?
