Okay so remember how we started with a partial lockout at the beginning of the year, and you could then optionally select a captain after the first match had been played.  If however you had made a vice-captain for that friday night game and were happy with the score, you didnt have to select a captain and you would get the VC score.

With the partial lockout this week, is it possible to select a vice captain for the first weeks matches and substisute say for example dane swan with a non playing bench player and then making swan emergency, with that bench player who is know on the ground selected as captain.  Of course this bench player now starting would be part of the second weeks teams, thus allowing you to change your captain selection if your VS scores poorly.

The question I have is....If you make a non-playing player captain and a becnh player who you konw will play as emergency, will that bench player now become captain??

Has now been merged! Prospector quick off the mark :)

It is a good idea! And no, your emergency doesn't count as a captain

With the split round/partial lockout this round the loophole for captain choices comes in to play.  Although I dont see many options available as the 3 teams where most captains are chosen from all play in the second week

1st Week Games:
Hawthorn - Hodge, Mitchell
Essendon - Stanton, Watson
Carlton - Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Simpson
Fremantle - Barlow, Pav, Sandi
Brisbane - Fev?
Richmond - Lids
North Melbourne - Harvey
Port Adelaide - Kane, Boak
Eagles - Priddis, Cox
Dogs - Boyd, Cooney, Cross

2nd Week Games:
St Kilda - Joey, NDS, GODdard, Hayes
Geelong - Bartel, GAJ, Chappy
Sydney - Goodes, ROK
Collingwood - Swan, Pendles
Adelaide - None
Melbourne - None

Best option is to put the V on a Dogs player and hope they score big against the hapless Eagles.

Edit:  How to use/not use V and C.

If you are happy with your vice captains score then chose someone who is not playing and then put the captain on them and then have your emergency score for them.

If you are not happy with your vice captains score then select a captain as normal who is playing in the second week.

Can't really go wrong with Hodge-podge

Yeh the options are limited IMO with Hodge, Cross, Cooney, Boyd

I think the loophole gives you the opportunity to take a risk on the vice captain.
Franklin is capable of massive scores, as is reiwoldt obviously and it could pay off.

If you are happy with your vice captains score, can you then just give the captaincy to a player on the bench who never plays (eg. Dennis Lane)
