I read in the Addy today that Gabletts manager Liam Pickering has spoken the the cats CEO and deferred new contract talks till the end of the year. He said that because of the intense speculation in the press and everyone is asking Gaz what he is going to do it would take the heat off him.
Who is he kidding. Gold Coast have admitted that they have sighned several high profile players but are not allowed to name them untill the end of the season. Pickering doesn't want to talk contracts untill the end of the season. Hmmmmm.
If Gablett was going to stay with Geelong he would have sighned a contract by now to put an end to this distraction.
I don't blame Gablett for going, $1.5mil is a lot of money to knock back. Who are these other high profile players though?
Pickering is an idiot. He should never have agreed to that meeting at the Gold Coast befor the season. He's the one who let the cat out of the bag, all this drama is entirely his fault. When word got out about that meeting, Gablett should have sacked him.

Pickering is out for the money. He gets a cut from the deal, so why not try to tempt Ablett to GC?

The Cats are fighting a losing battle right now :-\.

roo boys!

I sure hope he stays at Geelong though...

bunyip

So do I, but I suppose you have to look at it from his point of view. 3 years at Gold Coast and he's set up for the rest of his life, and he would still only be 28 or 29

bunyip

Stuff the stupid draft picks, Gold Coast should have to give Geelong a similar amount to what they are paying Gablett the first year ($1.5 - 2m)

GAJ is involved pretty heavily in property in new estates down here

i thought this might make him stay but i reckon it's not money but lifestyle

GC looking good

bunyip

Just imagine, if we got $2m for Gablett we could buy the Juddster ;D

You guys suggesting that your salary cap should be increased if you lose GAJ? Cos guess what, it will be, cos you wan't have to pay for GAJ

bunyip

I don't speak for other Geelong supporters ossie. What I say is my opinion alone. But your right, we will have some room in our salary cap next year if Gaz does go. Who knows what they'll do with it.

QuoteThe Cats hierarchy and senior management have been told that their Brownlow medallist will announce his intentions before the start of the finals series.

They are expecting a decision within four to five weeks on whether Ablett plays out his career with Geelong or makes a move to join the Gold Coast as its marquee player in the Suns' inaugural year in the AFL next season.

I find that interesting. I don't really see any benefit in doing so. Haven't they stated that all contract negotiations were off until the end of the season?

Just seems an odd move...
