ok. well is it worth ziebell to gysberts? this will leave me with gysberts on the field. Or i could go stevenson to gysberts and not have enough for sandi. my other option is wait for another gun rookie to emerge like mcneil. this is my preffered option as it allows me to wait for stevenson to peak, however i havent seen gysberts play and im not sure actually how good the kid is? is he a must have like pods and barlow?

With Melbourne not playing until Monday and Colin Garland, Cale Morton, Jordan Gysberts, Nathan Jones, Jack Watts, Paul Johnson & Jamie Bennell all named on an extended bench, will Gyzberts even make the cut this week? Interesting to know your thoughts on who you think will be emergencies as I have my doubts if Gyzberts will play.

I would be absolutely floored if Jizz Bits didnt play this week.
He has been out standing the first 2 weeks and looks every bit as good as Scully and Trengove have been so far.

callum111

does anyone know why he didn't play earlier in the year? , that might give us some indication to his chances this week and for the rest of the year i think he is worth the gamble he has been outstanding!
dees are a chance on monday too, they are up n about

i reckon he plays as McDonald is out and they need an extra mid to cover him

I have read multiple fantasy football websites across the course of this evening and the general consensus is that Gysberts will play.

I have a few opinions on the matter (rightly or wrongly) and i would like to air them:

1) Gysberts direct competition for spots in the team are players such as Scully, Trengove and Mckenzie. These players already have runs in the bank this year and are not going to make way for a 3rd game player.

2) Other Melbourne midfielders such as Sylvia, Jones (should they be fit to play), Moloney, Bruce etc etc etc are not going to be dropped for Gysberts... EVER. It would take a string of bad performances for this to happen and would not just happen on the back of 2 good games from an young kid.

3) McDonald is out for one week with Hamstring soreness. This will probably ensure Gysberts gets a game this week... but sure as hell does not guarantee him a game when captain courageous comes back into the fold.

4) All football teams need balance and therefore only a certain amount of midfield players will be picked each week and only a certain amount of young 'debutant' type players with very little experience will be picked each week. Gysberts is obviously one of these.

I believe all of these statements above to be true. If anyone disagrees i welcome them to argue their case. All of this culminates in my final, most important point:

Gysberts, no matter how good he has been in the sort term, is not a very intelligent fantasy football pick. He is not ensured more than about 4 or 5 games this season and going into the pointy end of the season and finals will probably be running around in the VFL.

I believe people are compelled to 'believe' he will be the next Barlow... the answer to all our prays, because after all, there isn't many viable downgrade options at this point in the season (See NOK, Danny Hughes, Campbell Heath etc). Its almost like there is a consensus on this forum (and many others) that if everyone gets him... then its ok to get him as well. People seem to want to act now and deal with the problems of copping donuts later (not to mention to endless forum whinging when it happens).

The reason for this topic is to make people think... don't just be a sheep and jump on board because everyone else is. Its decisions like this that will make your team stand apart come finals time as opponents with no bench coverage suddenly have donuts sprouting up all over the place and with no trades to cover them. It will be at that point that you think back to round 12 and realize you wasted a trade on a guy that played 5 games... just because everyone else did.

Remember the saints resting all those important players late in the season to rest them for finals? Is your bench going to stand up if something similar happens? Dont be caught out like many others.

2 or 3 back to back decent games will give most coaches the cash rise they want frm him..  I'd be happy with that, and anything else is a bonus.

i was gaining confidence all week he would be a lock but the fact mckenzie(the competition) came straight in mcdonald went out and he is only named on an extended bench not on the park has stopped me from aquiring him :-[

Slap, i feel like reporting you to the moderator for a dumb comment.

you completely missed the point of my rant. a trade (when most players only have between 6-10) on a player you might rise $80K on the back of 3-5 games for a season is not good bench coverage come finals times and not really a cash cow either. its just somewhere in between and does nothing to help coaches. there will be plenty of young players in this category come end of the season... i refer you to NOK, Campbell Heath, Danny Hughes and many others. the point of my thread was to alert coaches to the dangers of a player like this as many seem to think he is the next barlow and are 'getting on board' with all the other sheep. if you have minimal trades and no other good bench coverage in the midfield then i would steer well clear... dont get stars in your eyes people.

im not asking you to agree with me Slap, but i dont think you understood what i was saying.

i understood what you said, nor did I disagree with it.
i realise a cash cow is usually between 100-150k gain in price ideally.  but towards the end, and those needing the close to 100k, not after security..  Could be worth it.  A comment one's trading is never dumb, its all relative to each coaches situation.

fevalenko

Well im getting on him
Sylvias been playing as a forward almost permantely..hence the up and down shower scores and bruce has definetely not been in the engine room as much as previous years baileys opting to play him in the backline...surely theres a bit of room there for jizzy..including jizz they have no more permanent mids than what carlton are playing even with mcdonald back.
He's a high round draft pick bailey will want to play him plenty whether its a constant game or not nobody can be sure of which sucks.
I dont expect him to be barlow but im quite confident hes not last years muston either

PASS melbourne have a history this year of playing many rohan bail's avg of 70 cant get him a 4th game and until last week when he got a fractured cheekbone he wasnt even an emg or in the mix, there is a host of others on the 2 game bubble at melbourne check it out or just ignore it but the warning signs r there :-X

Chappy35
