Does anyone think the Dees have a chance of making top 8 this year?

roo boys!

No. Maybe.
Probs not mate. They are better than in the past but not top 8 quality. YET!

Justin Bieber

They have a chance just like any other team still in contention. If they can continue on strongly, can't see why not.

Just wouldn't expect too much seeing as most of their list is pretty young. Would be good for the seniors like Bruce and Green to get back into finals action :D.

Big_Cox14

Yes, they have a reasonable chance. The main question though for this young team will be consistency.

chatters24

They have a great opportunity for where they're placed at the moment. The only question is will the young team burn out later in the season. Whether that happens or not, this season will give them a great platform for next year and the year's beyond with this group.

At the start of the season I would of laughed and said HELL NO. Now I dont know what to expect because this season is throwing up surprises every week. We still have to play the lower/mid level teams again so we could get a few more wins. I still think top 8 is pushing it though.

Hawka

well now it looks like they can

+1 They have nothing to lose. It's great experience for them to even try and make it.

We'll see after this round. Carlton/Sydney lose, and Melbourne win... I reckon they're a real chance.

To get in the top 8 you have to win 12 games, which means Melbourne have to go through the rest of the season undefeated. As I said, possible, but unlikely. They still have to play Hawthorn, Port (away) and North. It would be a brave man who would bet on the Dees winning all them.

hmm good point but maybe they might not need to win 12 games

Carlton and Sydney are currently on 9 wins - Sydney especially aren't likely to win 3 of the next week. North are on 8 wins and aren't likely to win the next 4. One team at least will make the 8 without 12 wins.

Essendon did it last year on 10 and a half. I think Melbourne might do the same!

I think Melbourne finishing in the top 8 would be a backward step. Look at Essendon last year, it could be very similar.

Freo finish 5th, Melb finish 8th and have to travel to Perth for a possible thumping.

Whereas finishing 9th, Melbourne have already overachieved for the year and go into pre-season with the realistic aim of making the finals with a more developed squad.
