QuoteGEELONG forward Max Rooke is set to undergo investigative knee surgery after failing to shake the tendonitis that has plagued him this season.

Rooke, 28, played 22 games last year including the grand final, but has managed just one, the round five loss to Carlton, in 2010 prompting the club to take further action after rest failed to solve the problem.

"Max has come up a bit sore and he's actually having some investigative surgery on his knee to see how we go [forward]," football operations manager Neil Balme told geelongcats.com.au on Tuesday.

"We're a little unsure how long that will take [to heal]; we don't think it's too long term, but it's certainly a bit of an issue for him."

Rooke is highly regarded at the club for his hard-nosed approach inside the Cats' forward 50, but has been unable to train without discomfort for long periods since the problem arose during pre-season training.

Rooke's premiership teammate Joel Corey isn't faring a great deal better, with no end in sight to his absence from the field due to a knee injury that has sidelined him since round four.

"Joel won't be available for this week and is no certainty for next week," Balme said.

Coach Mark Thompson denied Corey had suffered a setback in his recovery from the injury following the round six win over the Tigers, but added the club was mindful not to put his long-term future in jeopardy by rushing him back prematurely.

:( Corey is in my team  :( I really need Mitchell back to heal the wound. :(

Unlucky but the cats seem to be doing fine without him in ;). Still a great midfielder who when comes in, hopefully pushes Ablett to a full time forward pocket role ;D

SCADDICT

Doesnt sound too bad , at least not as bad as Rooke. Corey should be back by round 10.

Not good for the Cats but their depth is fine. Not sure I'd be keeping Corey in my SC though, 8 games out is a tough ask.
