Saw that this post generated alot of interest last year. Maybe a new one should be started for this year or at least the old one is updated (like this idea).

Link to last years one is here: http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,3305.0.html

Chris Judd. Needs to be a captain on-field and off-field, not just a marquee player. Was only captain at West Coast because Ben Cousins had to step down, and doesnt show any of the qualities that are required of a captain. When he fronts the media, he seems slightly arrogant and carefree, which should be the opposite for a man whose team (and former team) has had so much off-field controvesry.

A great player who turns games, but I wouldnt say he steers the ship.

Out of:

Adelaide...............Simon Goodwin
Brisbane Lions.......Jonathan Brown
Carlton.................Chris Judd
Collingwood..........Nick Maxwell
Essendon.............Jobe Watson
Fremantle.............Mark Harvey
Geelong...............Cameron Ling
Hawthorn.............Sam Mitchel
Melbourne............James McDonald
North Melbourne...Brent Harvey
Port Adelaide.......Domenic Cassisi
Richmond.............Chris Newman
St Kilda................Nick Riewoldt
Sydney................Craig Bolton Brett Kirk Adam Goodes
West Coast.........Darren Glass
Western Bulldogs..Brad Johnson

Out of those I reckon Newman, Johnson and Cassisi, McDonald are probably the worst.

Thing is its very hard to pick a "bad" captain because generally the captain is the best player as well as one of the senior figures off the field.

Really? If I was picking an All-Australian team, I'd make him Captain. I think he is terrific, and from things I've read, he is very influential off field. Who cares how he comes off in the media? Carlton's off-season troubles were bad though, I do agree. They were pretty bad before Judd also though.

Newman, Johnson, Cassissi and McDonald? Very harsh! I respect all those players immensely. Especially McDonald this year.

Mark Harvey is the coach btw HintT :) Pavlich captain of Freo!

Is impossible to pick the worst, everyone of those 18 players are the best in the AFL.

And hopefully no one says Nick Maxwell like they did last year. The guy is terrific, and I think basically made the All-Aus team on his leadership. I am bias though.

This question is to negative for my liking. Captains are appointed because they represent all the ideals the club stands for, there are no bad captains, they are all quality people. :)

Fremantle.............Mark Harvey

Wrong - Its Pav.  Harves wasn't even a captain in his playing days.

What if i change it to who is the BEST AFL captain?

I think captains are getting younger and younger these days. Watson is fairly young and i would of prefered it handed over the Mcveigh or Hille since they are both experience but not old. I'm happy the cats chose Ling over Selwood. No matter how tough he is, cracked into the league just a few year ago.

I do think Glass should hand over captaincy next season. Nothing against him but reckon the eagles just need another experienced head leading them and see how they go. Might actually be good for them to have a guy like Priddis leading the way with his work ethic and commitment to the ball.

Gosh, I didn't realise Harvey wasn't playing for Fremantle.  It couldn't have been a c+p error. ::)
