Hey guys who do you think are essendons 5 best players in the current team?
I will kick things off.
1. Jobe Watson- Great leader and clearly our best player.
2. Paddy Ryder- When paddy plays well the team usually wins.
3. Brent Stanton- Great midfielder who covers alot of ground.
4. Angus Monfries- The X-factor. fantastic lead up forward who also sets up alot of goals aswell.
5. Dustin Fletcher- Inspector gadget is like a fine wine. sets goals up with his kick outs.

Master Q

Take Monfries out, and add Hille, Keep Fletcher at 5 though.

Master Q, why hille? i think he is a really bad kick for goal and SO slow!! gets the stats but stats arent everything.
im just interested in hearing ur reason for having him in the top 5.

1. Watson
2. Fletcher
3. Pears
4. Lovett-Murray
5. Stanton

Don't think loveet murray is there just yet. Needs to keep playing his running game if he is to be considered up there.

Watson, Fletch, Pears and Stanton are up there. Unsure of the guy to round up the 5. Monfies looks the best bet. Best option up forward for us at the moment.

Think he is a great ruckmen, would love to have him in my side.

I agree with that top 5. Stanton would probably be 2nd right now. They are all such good players. Love Jobe Watson

Boomz

1. Watson
2. Stanton
3. Pears
4. Fletcher
5. Monfries

Trav0

1. watson
2. pears
3. stanton.
daylight
4. probably about 10 players you ould put here.
5. probably about 9 players here..

Fletch74

1. Watson
2. Stanton
3. Pears
4. Fletcher
5. Welsh

NLM has too many turnovers for my liking
Monfries has too many ups and downs
The 5th spot is probably the hardest to pick, but Welsh usually locks someone out of the game. Could be Hooker, Hille, Ryder, Monfries, or NLM

In a year's time I reckon Gumby will be in that list though. He's looking the goods  :)

Hope your right about Gumby... He's showing promise so far.

Hocking is a decent run with player. Has a fair few tackles and can get under the skin of some people (not to the extent of crowley though). maybe him for number 5? only good tagger for the dons. Welsh is more of a fill in tagger when hocking is needed back.

You're probably right HP, forgot about Hocking, but I wouldn't put him as no. 5 not yet anyway, still in early career and has the potential to get even better. As I said before I think no. 5 is anyone's guess.

I forgot about Hocking... I think he would be top 10 but dont think he'd be top 5 yet...

Whole heartedly agree with Watson, Stanton, Fletcher and Pears as the first 4.

I think number 5 contenders are:

Monfries - a great pair of hands and a good set shot for goal, also a good leader. Plays for frees too much and can go very very cold when hes off his game

Hurley - maybe not quite in the best 5 at the moment but will definitly be top 5 for essendon in the future and maybe even top 5 in the competition. A solid pair of hands, with potential for Reiwoldt like marking ability, his kick his outstanding, kicks 50 metres on the left and right foot withoubt too much trouble at all. It has been shown his disclipline may be lacking, but if he can improve this then there is no reason why he can't be a premier key position player.

Hille - on his day easily among the best 5 ruckmen in the league, great agility, skills and kick for goal. Where he has let himself down is his on field discipline, too many reports, free kicks etc. If he can tighten this aspect of his game, and maybe increase his speed slightly then he will be comfortably up among the upper echelon of ruckmen in the game

Ryder - easily one of the most agile ruckmen in the game, without a doubt. Can have quiet days and this is where he lets himself down. When he plays well, Essendon usually play well, which is the mark of a good player. Has the ability to win games off his own back, as shown on Anzac Day 2009. His kick is one of the better in the team, and his marking abilities are probably up there with the best. In 3-4 years good become the premier ruckman in the game

Welsh - a very good tagger who wins his own ball. The one reason I have for not automatically giving him the number 5 spot is that his discipline on the field is lacking desperately at times. There is no need to (for example) knee someone in the groin as he did on the weekend. Otherwise a great player, can shut a player out of the game completely

Nathan Lovett-Murray - Is not really a contender in my opinion, way too inconsistent. On his day would probably be in the top 5, but is really not consistent enough

Others who could possibly in the next few years:
Hooker
Gumbleton
Hocking
Zaharakis
