Anybody want to weigh in on some Byron Schammer discussion!  :P

I think its a good thing that he isnt playing, I really do. My question is, why? Why now decide he isnt good enough? I mean, were we THAT short on midfielders last year?  Did he not have a good pre-season?

He is a poor decision maker, sure, but his work rate and tackling ability are probably better than a few of his team mates, as is his core strength. He isnt old (24 years, often called the prime of a players career). His games in the WAFL are worthy of an AFL recall (features in Claremont's best every week, who are sitting ontop of the table), yet he still doesnt even get named as an emergency.

You've gotta wonder - is there more to the story?  Has he fallen out with the club? Is he unfit? Is he into the drugs? Has he signed with Gold Coast?Or have the coaches just decided he is a lost cause?

Thoughts on AFL's most maligned player

I was having this discussion the other week at work.  I actually have never liked the guy as a player for Fremantle.  Yes I respect what he went through (lost a heap of weight through sickness) and his determination to get back, but he just doesnt seem to have taken that next step.

I think he may be left behind

The is my favourite freo player. He is a great player but as you said, need to work on his decision skills. Has alot of talent but i think Harvey wants younger guys in to fill the void. His body can't last an entire AFL season. He tends to slow down as the year progresses but should be on the verge of the 22 at freo. Harvey must have something against schammer for him not to be even considered.

I would prefer him to go to the Gold Coast since he can be used better over there. Hate to see a talent go to waste.

Had him in both my sc and dt last year to show how much faith i had in him.

I cant believe you had him in your team HP - bad choice there :P

I also think that a move to the Gold Coast would prob be a good choice for him.  I only see him as depth cover at the moment.

He was ripping it apart first half last year. It was hanging onto him that was a bad choice ;)

Was named as an emergency for the derby, but played the day before for Claremont so he was never going to be considered. Nail on the head Val - depth cover. His disposal is horrible, and at that age its hard to correct it. With a few midfield injuries he could play, but I doubt this guy will be a factor in any premiership or even Fremantles 2011 season. Should be moved on, along with Thornton, Murphy, O Brien and Hinkley at the end of the year.

An option for GC perhaps? ;)

Well Harvs in todays paper said he was very close to an AFL birth. He said if someones not in the best 22 that they need at least 4 very good games in the WAFL to be considered for a call up, and Schammer has been knocking on the door (averaging 26 possessions with top side Claremont, with 27 and two goals in a BOG performance last week), so I dont think there's anything else going on other than the fact that there are currently more-suited midfielders running around in the best 22.

I would assume he will play until Matt DeBoer gets demoted to the rookie list, or when someone goes down (which i prey doesnt happen) . Gold Coast could have a look, there arent alot of Freo players who havent committed beyond the seasons end yet, with the one notable exclusion, Pavlich.

Schammer has got to be the sh*ttest player at our club! I would put him up there with Thornton.  Everytime I see Schammer getting the ball I cringe and 99% of the time it results in a turn over off a clanger kick or stupid hand ball. I do agree he is hard at it and plays with his heart, but lets face it guys, this is AFL, our club is not a charity case. I actually have nicknamed him 'Sh*t Schammer'. Anyway, he won't make it back into the side thank goodness.
