a beautiful set of numbers chatters!
and beautiful post, too

chatters24

Thanks elxam. Hopefully the numbers brought you happiness, although I do think that the 2nd list of numbers there (mid-priced cash cows) won't really impress too many who own some of the underperforming cash eaters!

elxam

you take that every time
thanks again

Who do you guys rate as potential keepers amoung the rookie and mid-priced cash cows??
There could be a few of them such as: Barlow, Hall, Malceski, Hille, Waters and Maguire. They all have their merits and can definetly fill the las spot on your field in their respective spots, or would you rather them occupy your bench? How about cash cows (particularly rookie cash cows) do you think you may keep for the season just to occupy you bench becahse they have great job security? Such as Martin or Bastinac??

great question chatters

i think everyone and his dog would be gnawing at this very thought provoking question ....

i suppose everyone's team and situation are different and when thrown in a few unexpected injuries your well oiled plan can be just plain slippery to hold on to...

regardless, all things being equal....someone will have to make a decision...

having given this some thought i have decided to take each week on its merit and re-assess the situation as it presents itself. All the names mentioned in your threat and those fantastic rookies doing so well at present we might yet see the goalpost moved forward a few more rds rather than monty's 7 rd threshold before culling can take place ....

the dynamics change all the time... last week I was almost certain that barlow was the man, but now j trengove is also doing great so that sort of thing can impact on your transactions and retention of players...

Well thought out elxam.

I think the one key thing that really determines how many cash cows remain in your team for the entire season is injuries, the thing that you can least control. The more injuries you have to your premiums particularly such as Roo, Bock, Mitchell, Adcock and Boyd (even though some are only short term), particularly those who mis 3+ weeks, the more trades you will have to use to get rid of them (particularly if you have inadequate cover on your bench), meaning the less trades you have to downgrade and upgrade. Because in an ideal world you would upgrade all your origial cash cow's on your field to premiums, but a large injury toll can prevent that.

However, in saying this, I think players such as Malceski, Hille, Barlow and Waters are players which most coaches would be happy with the thought of keeping them in their teams for the remainder of the season at the present point in time. However, as we know, this is DT, things can change quickly!

absolutely spot on chatters

injuries are  the unknown factor in the whole thing
next would be form and the team within which they play

for injuries i suppose one can minimise its impact by choosing the more durable types hoping that one can get maximum output from them

for form one can only use their status (prem, midrange or rookie) as a guide when it comes to trading (and patience)

and as for team structure, we all know what the former north melbourne coach now port assistant used to do with his players don't we ?

by all means exclusive, these are some of the parameters that one should have had before making those selections (pre and during season)

but again even with the best planning in place no one can predict the unpredictable

I think team structure is a key element in a cash cow becoming a keeper, whether he is on your field or just a backup occupying the pine. For a cash cow to become a keeper he has to have great job security. Great job security for rookies usually comes from the bottom teams such as Richmond, Melbourne, North Melbourne and Fremantle last year. Like look at the rookie that have great job security this year: Trengrove, Martin, Bastinac, Nason. These players all come from lower ranked teams who have plenty of up and coming youngsters. I think it can be considered very dangerous when choosing a rookie from a more experienced team such as Geelong, St Kilda and the Bulldogs, because as we've seen with Moles (who was omitted and then a late inclusion), Duncan (you cant tell me he would miss with 'general soreness' if he was playing with the Tigers!) and JKT. These players have constant pressure from quality players who are out of the team pushing for a spot back in the team. One or two just slightly average week's and they're out.

So all in all, if you're look at maximising your rookie cash cow's and even have a chance of them being a bench keeper then you really do have to look at rookies in the bottom teams, and just be careful of the coaches such as Laidley, and now I'm thinking you can start to put Knight's in the same catagory, who just drop rookies at a drop of a hat.

I posted my culling options for this week in the "Rate my Team" section: http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,14081.msg100743.html

I think Peterson is a definate chop for this week

Yeh that is really unlucky! I think quite a few got screwed over by that. If he was listed as an emergency then you'd only have yourself to blame because you should have had him as an emergency, but seeing as tho he wasn't then that's rough.

Can you imagine if Palmer was drafted to Geelong... with his poor disposal efficency there's no way he would have played many games there or in any of the top teams because the Geelong's players have such polished skills it just really would have highlighted Palmer's inability to hit targets. Whereas put him in the current Richmond team and all of a sudden he would be considered very reliable compared to some in there.
