Jumping of rookies so soon?  I thought the best times were from rounds 6-12 (break evens pending of course)

Great post.  Re Hitchcock, gut feeling tells me that if he gets dropped this week or next week he may find it very hard to get back into the side - too lightly framed and gets shouldered off the ball too easily.  With that in mind, and considering that his B/E is creeping up, he may be one of the ones who should be sold off early, rather than waiting for the inevitable.  Would like to trade him for Rockliffe but there are inherant dangers with him that have already been mentioned.  Hmmm...

Case by case basis. The only way that works is to continually look at where there are and where you think they will be in the short term.

Hitchcock is probably only 20k or so from his maximum so im trading him out now for rockliff who is a better player by a mile before his price skyrockets above his

He will probably struggle to make his BE

I’m hearing ya kyle...I reckon dropping Hitch and picking up Rocky is the way to go!!!!

Great post hawk.  I have all the rookies in your list except banner and trengove.  waters, barlow, bastinac, and peterson have all been great, but martin was dissapointing on sunday, scoring only 53 against the dees, and he has yet to hit the 100 mark.  his team haven't played geelong or st. kilda yet and have the dockers in perth this week.  That could be very ugly for the tiges, so martin for me has almost run his race.  the other rookie i have in the midfield is jetta, and i think he has more upside.

i have hitchy in the forward line and it will be touch and go as to whether he survives the axe this week, and with pods and rocky on two games, a big decision to be made there.  still cant split pods and rocky.  i think its a matter of picking the one with the most job security.

Great post :)

Actually thinking about trading Barlow this week would you believe! BE of 41 and I want Lucas.... Hmmm, these are just panic thoughts at the moment though.

I hope your joking??
Ive got banner on the bench and he wont be back for a while which sucks :(

Not really! Barlow looks atm that an 80 score will be about par (just an impression), which won't be much more than Basty and Martin, who have negative BEs, and there are some premiums out there at some nice prices. One more week I think.

Great topic/post!!

Still think its a little premature to be talking about cashing in on Barlow. I think playing it safe for one more week (at the very least) is the way to go. BE only 41.

Of the opinion that Barlow should be a keeper for this season though, but each to their own...

Think Martin will be the first midfield cash cow the majority of players will be milking...

Lewis Jetta first 75pt+ score in Rd4 vs. North. Mediocre/quiet performances in the first 3 rounds. Current BE: 4. Total value increase to date + $70,700 Was the score vs. North a flash in the pan, or will he finally kick into gear after having a month to settle in? Personal opinion is that he's not expected to crack the 75pt+ barrier many more times this season. Could potentially lose his spot to the yet-to-be-tested Gary Rohan (surprised it still hasn't happened). May have to cash in on him sooner than expected

Considered similar, but gonna trade Hitch and upgrade Masten so no room to do so. But gonna watch Barlow's form this round and see his BE next week. If he doesn't look like getting those 100+ scores as recieving extra attention then the time to trade and maximise $$$ is soon! Remember: he is a gun but still a rookie!

hawk_88

Good to see others are interested in the topic!

Jetta is an interesting case. I like the way he is playing and I personally don't think he will lose his spot with his current form, especially if the Swans keep winning. Rohan might get a start this week with McGlynn out for a month.

The other thing with Jetta is he has fallen into a beneficial pattern for fantasy players, that is a slow first couple of rounds and then a bigish score, which will positively effect his price rises for 3 weeks, not 1 or 2 like with Barlow's massive scores. Even if Jetta barely breaks 50 for the next 3 rounds, he will still go up 60K in that time.

ClarksonsArmy

I agree with Jetta he will keep his spot the swans love him and had been concsistent.  Scored well last week and has not kicked a major as of et -so still improvvement in his game.

Also with McGlyn and injuries by teams starting to kick in I dont see Roo's dropping him

My big person who i am looking at for tis week is brining Scmidt from Adelaide in two scores of 80 plus for a rookie defender.... However dont know if he will keep his place due to injuries, smaller type of running defender

Time to revisit Hawk88's original post.

Quote...revisit it in 6 weeks and see how they all came along, if Pods and Rocky are still playing, if Richmond have won a quarter, if Waters is going to be a keeper and if Barlow is averaging 100 still!!

Well Pods and Rocky are playing, Richmond have won a  quarter, Waters is not a keeper and Barlow is averaging 100, eeeaaasssyyy...

Updates on the cashcows of 2010.

Barlow
averaging 113, worth $495K and a BE of 62... Scores of 132, 126, 90, 138 and 103 since the original post have converted the doubters! KEEPER. A++

Bastinac
getting enough of the pill with 20 plus possessions in the past 4 rounds against 3 of the contending teams and (cough cough) Adelaide. This has seen him averaging 69 over the season to date and with scores of 87 and 105 in the past 3 weeks he still has plenty of upside.

Many have thanked him for his services and off-loaded him in the past few rounds. For those who are looking at off-loading him soon he should grow another $35K in the next 2 rounds so hold off if those $$ are required. He may be a good reserve mid as he looks like playing the season. B+

Waters
After averaging 91 through the first 5 rounds many were considering him a keeper. The following 5 rounds have seen an average of only 66 as he his roll in the Eagle's team has reportedly changed. If anyone who is watching the Eagles play please add your comments to this. Will be trading soon if socks aren't pulled up. B

Macguire
Has improved his average from 75 to 80 in the past 6 weeks and has done the opposite to Waters. Will most likely be a keeper for those low on trades. For those who have more trades left this week may be a good week to trade Goose. With a BE equal to that of his average a teary farewell awaits Goose and some SC's this week. A-

Banner
After getting ones hopes up with a first round 90 owners of Mr Banner have endured pain and only pain since. D-

Peterson
Averaging 66, missed one game, should start for the rest of the year and has a bit of cash to give. Took a screamer last week. B

Trengove, Jack
For those who outlayed the $174K at the start of the year young Jack has paid handsome dividends. With two tons in his last 5 games he is putting points in the tank for those who are yet to complete their mids and have him starting.

Two scores of 80 in the next two weeks will see his value go to $400K which is an excellent return. These two games will be against the Blues and the Pies who's midfields will be a good measuring for this young dea. A-

Martin
Similar to Trengove, Martin was relatively expensive at the start of the year at $169K and has risen a tidy $157K in 10 rounds. Baring injury will play out the year and if not upgraded he will be a good midfield reserve to guard against those dreaded late withdrawals. B

Pods
Smashing it. Averaging 110 and 125 in the past 4 games. With Hawkins playing as half a ruck his spot is looking more and more secure. Dare I say it, even at $460K he is still value for those who have missed him. A++

Rockliff
Averaging 66 for the season to date the Lions seem to have faith in the young man. They were rewarded with a 30 possession game against the Pies last week. Frustratingly though, he tends to score his big points on the pine for many SC's and 40's when starting...

Plenty of upside and should reach $300K in 2 weeks giving a tidy $200K profit for those looking for a final upgrade or could provide a good reserve forward. B

Hitchcock
Made a positive return from a spell on the outer with a 65 and 99 before being injured again last week. Could be ripe at the business end for that final upgrade. A Frustrated C

of the others...

Scully
with his 129 out of his rolling average this cash cow is ready for the sword. B

Jetta
Raised about $115K when he peaked in round 6. Has the tools but hasn't the confidence. 9 behinds, 0 goals for the season sums it up for the young swan. Wouldn't be surprised if he strung together tons late in the year but can only offer a C- at this point.

Decided to do my own not as good as Hawks but did my best so his my recap on Scott Gumbleton and Henry Playfair

Scott Gumbleton Pre season all the talk was if he will be able to go through a season injury free, Many forwards who are taken as first round draft picks take a while to get there body right for AFL, It has seem Gumby has gotten over his injury curse and his body his nearly at the right stage. His scores have been average at best with a high score of 81 in round 2 against Fremantle and a low score of 18 against Geelong in round 1. He has kicked 13 goals 9 behinds but an average of 51 seems to be a spud in the fantasy deparment

Henry Playfair Now i know he has been in the business a while now but having started of at a rookie price, Henry Playfair seems to have gotten over his injury curse too he has been able to play more than 18 games a season but in a struggling forward line for Sydney there need someone to stand up with Adam Goodes out of form and Daniel Bradshaw out injured and Playfair will be the guy, with scores of 69, 94, 64 and a break even of -48 get on him this week if you havent already
