That's why I said played five times, not 2. ;) And you didn't count until like 3 hours ago anyway. :P

Ok, question for you top managers. When it comes to your squad lineup, obviously it's important to have some bowling variety. a back up keeper is personal opinion, need one if you have a NAT of course, and it's nice to have an AR in the side, and maybe a 2nd one that's being trained up. But what I don't really know is the question of batsmen, do you need batting variety?

Just going by what my squad has, I have back-up batsmen, but they are not first team material, they are all developing batsmen waiting for my ageing batting lineup to get too old. But every match I line up the same way: Aronstam, Wardlaw, Butt, Challenor, Horton, Watson (wk). Should I be investing in a 6th batsman which is there for variety?

Discuss. :)

I suppose in theory it could be beneficial to have spin specs to come on for drys where you know you're facing 30+ spin overs, or other similar such circumstances. Personally I don't think skills are necessarily better suited to conditions, endo in heat and such is useful, but the difference is ultimately going to be less than simply playing an otherwise superior batsman - unlike the advantages bowlers can receive from conditions.
You're best to have a 6th batsman I think even if you aren't going through PC, a younger one to cover fatigue when you really need it and so that you've got players coming through.

Ultimately, the game is tailored to reward highly skilled bowlers more so than batsmen, and games are won and lost by bowlers and their orders. Although some advantage can be squeezed out of specialised batsman, the difference is negligible and doesn't warrant paying the wages you'd need.

*treat with caution, not a top manager. :P

Master Q

Nah batting variety sounds like a waste of cash.

Just need to have some younger backup, and make sure they play when you are versing poor opposition.

Atm I have a 20 y.o project BH who will never be first XI material but he is handy - and I just purchased a backup keeper who can play as a bat as well.

Imo, go with 5 first Xi batters and then 1 or 2 backups. Don't go buying gun back ups unless you are losing too many to nats. You can train your players for variety. Give them more technique and less power or give them less technique and more power

Ok, thanks guys, so I don't think I will change anything from what I have currently. :)

Challenor (31) - Next season will be playing PC and T20. Then I'll fire him once I'm out of PC.
Butt (29, Acc)
Wardlaw (29, Opener)
Horton (28, Finisher)

There are the ageing batsmen of mine. I then have the following:
Aronstam (24, Seam Spec) - First XI player
Byrd (22) - Will play SOD matches next season.
Rasil (21, Acc) - Replacement for Butt, will alternate with Byrd in the SOD lineup
Karim (20, Spin Spec) - Replacement for Wardlaw, only T20 games for him right now.

Then I have three Youths, 19, 18 and 18yo, which I will plan on holding onto aswell. All without an ingame talent though.

I reckon I can throw one of them away, but maybe this is where I could train the variety up.

I didn't know you had 4 seamers now lol. You did better on a Green deck with your three spinners. ;)

Yeah I tested playing with 4. Only 1 of them was a Medium though, and one of them was a raw 21 year old. He'll be good in the long run though.

I think Green favours me alright, two mediums, two fms and Zahra. Only real weak spot is my AR, Roach, who is expert/outs/outs but has no power yet.

I'll challenge you for another friendly before the season ends. :)

My variety is just my youth players. 19 and 18 year olds

chrisuzz

rated 162k in my last competitive SOD match, anyone looking to tee up some friendlies that rate similar?

Side consists of:
2 - 22yo
1 - 21yo
5 - 20yo
2 - 19yo
1 - 18yo

Really happy with how theyre starting to progress!
