Played valk in a youth friendly today. Decided I would play an U18 squad as I wanted to see how they would rate, and thought going full strength would be a bit unfair. With no 19 year olds in sight and only 5 18 year olds playing (2 for valk, 3 for me) this was certainly a young affair!

Valk decided to bat first on a sticky pitch and after losing a wicket in the second over I thought this was going to be a cake walk. Sadly valk settled, putting on a 53 run partnership before losing 3 wickets for 3 runs, and I again foolishly got ahead of myself. Once again his team dug deep and pulled out an 81 run partnership, then another 60 run partnership to finish his 40 overs at 5 for 207. I could not believe I only managed to take 5 wickets on a sticky pitch, I thought I was gone for sure!!

Chasing a target over 200 is never easy on a sticky pitch when you have 50 overs so I thought I had no chance with just 40 overs. That was confirmed when I was quickly 2 down after 7 overs with not many runs on the board. But 4 solid partnerships anchored by Mashud (60 from 88) and Valentine (50 not out from 46) saw me get over the line with 9 balls to spare to win by 5 wickets :)

I can't believe on a sticky pitch only 10 wickets were taken!! :o

3. Andy Valentine - to add to his 50 not out he also took 3 catches as keeper. This 16 year old prodigy will be a gun :D
2. Wouter-Jan Cohen - top scorer of the day, scoring 73 runs from 72 balls, finishing not out too. Great effort for valk's 17 year old.
1. Brett Sawle - my AR. Took 1 for 27 from 8 overs, then backed that up with the bat scoring 41 runs from 44 balls.

Damn your ratings are good valk!! But I guess that's expected when you pay 3.14 million for the squad!! :o
Happy with my ratings too considering I only spent a measly 819k on them (including 4 home grown players), just need to work on that wicket taking ability! Having a rematch with valk next week, but I'll be playing my full strength team then. Can he get revenge? >:D

I just declined your offer Fletch :P

I only agreed to play these 2 matches against CF so that I can get an indication of where my youth squad is at and vice versa for CF.  I also threw together the team instructions in about 2.5 minutes.  I just used the default bowling lineups that are provided as well.  The team I played was as follows

2 x 16yo
7 x 17yo
2 x 18yo

A few things I got from this match

1)  Fatigue makes a massive difference to ratings.  92k without fatigue vs 61k fatigued (my last YOD game)
2)  I am keen to find out when I will rate over 100k
3)  Money can buy championships (aka LeBron and Miami)
4)  My total squad cost is $3.7million and the total value of the team that played is $3.6million
5)  Wouter-Jan Cohen was the worst batsman (apart from the bowlers) that I took in to the match - even my AR has better batting
6)  My best bowler (cap/cap ws) didnt take a wicket either

No AR, plus my Keeper (at 6) is only expert summary. Then I have a ord/spec, and avg/excep batsman after that.

I have an AR that 18, he will fill the void when he comes through, plus a decent 18yo keeper coming through as well.
