Neale likely out this week. Lyons might he an option round 3 as a corrective trade. That bye next week has me thinking he is a trade option rather than start

Mat0369

With all Richmond's injuries they've swung Short forward. This game has been a slight disaster

A bit of a disaster to start. I ended up moving Heeney to fit the extra premium mid in and he went off again. I had Grundy VC over Daicos and he was awful. I was thinking start Daicos in the midfield to try and work out the Gibcus trade but held off, reckon I should have gone that way. Right now I have 11k in the bank which is tricky to fix some potential issues. I think it might be worth downgrading LDU to one of Touk, Wines or Crouch. Leaning towards Miller and banking 100k. I'm also thinking Laird to Libba. I am having trouble splitting those two and Libba being slightly cheaper is appealing.

Don't stress out Matt, many like myself copped a Gibcus 19, you'll be fine. Heeney always does this and then turns cold mid season, just wait for the full quota of mids to return, it will be business as usual.

Livingstone over Maley? Should I be changing this?

Mat0369

I saw Heeney's numbers, he did play forward late in that game but looks to be mainly roaming through the middle with 18 CBA's which is the most behind Grundy.

WC play a lot of those Sunday slots, particularly the later ones which makes for an ideal loop

Just made the switch.

I reckon this year success will hinge on the forward line, this is the most open field I can remember. I'm not totally sold on Jackson to be honest but as insurance I think he'll eventually find his way into most teams.

Mat0369

Ended up going LDU to Miller for cash to fix my backline. LDU going nuts. This is great haha

Mat0369

My team after the Saturday night games. Reid was injured and it appears to be 'hamstring awareness'. For a guy that missed significant time with a hamstring that's a disaster. He will be traded to either Dean or Hore.

D'Ambrosio went nuts and he makes the most sense for Gibcus. I had 0 cash in the bank and figured I need to free up enough for that trade which will cost me around 70k. The quickest way to do that was downgrade one of Laird, Butters or LDU to one of Miller/Crouch/Wines. I picked LDU and made some points on that trade although he also scored 120+ and showed why I originally had him in my side.

Fisher was horrendous by foot and also did what my gut thought he might do and stink it up. He was exploited in the air and tries to pull off kicks he isn't capable of so not much has changed. He will be a rollercoaster and I'm thinking I get off quickly and try and turn him into Heeney before he spikes, however to do that I need about 105k. I see 3 ways to get the cash, trade Bont, trade Butters or trade English. I am reluctant to trade Bont and English, even at their top dollar price.

If I was to do it I'd look at Bont to Libba, that would pocket me on extra 76k on top of my D'Ambrosio money. I could look at English to Gawn to pocket 131k, English to Jackson for 168k, Butters to Wines for 172.5k, Butters to Yeo for 189k or Butters to Lyons for an extra 378k.

Using a bit of forward thinking, these are trades I anticipate making

Gibcus > D'Ambrosio
Reid > Dean/Hore
Clark > Carroll (I think Carroll will come in and Clark looked awful)
Fisher > Heeney
Campbell > Dempsey?

Looking at cost of those trades, Gibcus to D'Ambrosio is going to cost $74,200, Reid to Hore is a $0 cost, same with Clark to Carroll and they are both round 3 moves. Fisher to Heeney is going to cost $105,100 and Campbell to someone like Dempsey will cost $24,500 (another round 3 move). Total cost is $203,800 and 5 trades. Awful start on the trade burning front, but it looks much better based off this weeks games. To get enough cash I would have to do either English to Gawn, English to Jackson or Butters to Wines/Yeo/Lyons.

Gawn has been the popular starting ruck choice in a lot of teams but I reallyyyy want English. As much as I want Butters, I feel like downgrading him is the best course of action, especially coming off the pre-season ankle injury. I'm not sure if I try and bank as much as possible and grab Lyons or take the risk with Wines. I really should have turned him into Crouch but I held off so I could look at the numbers better before making the decision. I'm almost leaning towards Lyons even with the bye next week.

Any thoughts?

Bully

The best move I can see is Fisher to Lyons & move Windsor to the forwards. That enables Gibcus to D'Ambrosio, those two trades look pretty solid to me. Reid to Dean is pretty straightforward, as is Clark to Carroll.

It didn't cost me a trade to make the Butters to Wines move where as Fisher to Lyons would and I miss Heeney. I went with Butters to Wines at the moment to pocket the cash although Gawn went nuts and I slightly regret not doing that now. Wines has scored decently so I can't be too upset. 100% agree on the other three trades, although Hore over Dean could be an option as well.

Hore has a bit more clarity around his scoring potential, I think 70 is possible as he has already demonstrated a reasonably high ceiling. Job security looks ok, he was picked up for a reason, worth a punt I think. The only question I would ask is if both Reid & Gibcus both need to go then it would be preferable to grab the player on the bubble and that is Dean. I think Dean will average 50-55 but he'll be good for 120k in cash so not a bad option.

As for Heeney, his best season has been 101, unless he is a permanent mid then that is the best you can expect but most years it's been closer to 95. Lovely player to watch but just as valuable as a forward, maybe this is the year he gets free reign but we've been waiting for nearly a decade. I'm weighing up Heeney and Flanders and I'm firming on Flanders, I think his role a little more concrete.

Positive for Dean is he was picked ahead of Frampton. Negative is the Pies backline has been f***ing horrendous and the vulnerable player is Dean. They do play early, but with best 18 this week I can sit on Reid and choose one of Hore or Pink instead. Worner looked great before the concussion as well

I already have Flanders, if I was picking one between him and Heeney it's Flanders. Having said that, I think Heeney may be worth the risk before the price rise because he will probably still score well enough for F6.

Round 1

Score: 2110
Rank: 51,309
Round Rank:  51,309
Cash: $273,500

Good: Daicos, Stewart, Howes, Bont, Laird, Green, Miller, McKercher, Roberts, Windsor, Sharp, English, Flanders, Jordon, Reid, Wilson, Cadman
Pass: Short, Wines, Sexton
Bad: Grundy, My Trigger Finger
Ugly: Williams, Coffield, Gibcus, Reid, Sanders, Clark, Fisher, Campbell

It wasn't an awful round considering the rank. I nailed most of my prems, Daicos, Stewart, Bont, Laird, Green, Miller, English and Flanders all scored really well. Short was disappointing but he is averaging 109 over 2 games which is fantastic. Grundy after a dominant round 1, struggled with the Pies size in the ruck and finding the ball around the ground.

I had a bit of a trigger finger trying to self correct for injuries through the round. I traded out LDU and Butters who both scored well, Miller was excellent but Wines was servicable. My preference was Crouch over Wines but oh well. I didn't have Heeney in after he was in one of my drafts and that sucked. Rowell is one I loved heading into this year but I went the 'safer' option in Miller and he looks like he will destory teams that don't have him this year. Billings dominated after being vested in round 1 and Fyfe hit the ton and looks like he is back to his best.

I did manage to dodge the bullet that is James Harmes after my gut told me to avoid him, Sanders was unfortunately subbed and there are some injuries mixed in with some disaster performances.

I think I'll go early on Gibcus to D'Ambrosio and I'm also thinking Fisher to Heeney for this week. Berry from the Suns also looks to be in line for a nice price rise so turning Clark into Berry is also tempting.

That will leave me with 54k, 1 boost and 3 trades gone.

arbel

Not a bad start. I'm liking the look of Berry. He is currently getting the biggest price rise of the rookies to have played 2 games. Dempsey from Geelong also had a good start scoring 96. Sanders copping the sub vest is a worry. Bevo had flagged it pre game apparently but yeah have bigger issues to solve first in Reid, Gibcus. Clark had 13 disposals so found the ball but he only went at 30%

Mat0369

The teams were interesting. Sanders and Clark named on field, Windsor and Fisher on extended benches. Campbell is also on an extended bench for the Tigers so he could be dropped/vest candidate which is unfortunate.

I wonder if it is worth waiting a week on D'Ambrosio with it being best 18 and just in case of an injury. I'll definitely wait until Hore is on the bubble before trading Reid to him.

I was originally set on Heeney in for Fisher, I'm now contemplating if I try and get Rowell in before his huge price jump. I feel structure wise it may not be the best move so I'm leaning towards the Heeney trade this week.

Berry is the other rookie due for a price jump, if Campbell gets dropped I am thinking a quick sideways trade and try and bank the early cash. I'm still a bit undecided on what I want to do so I'll wait for the 23 for the 3 Sunday games before locking anything in
